Storms
In my mind and in the burg, I'm thinking about storms. My readings today talk about the unruly wind and sea. The time that people were baffled by a man who calmed the winds and seas. Do storms still rage? Are winds wild and seas tumultuous? Sure they are. I'm sure this was a metaphor about the struggles of life as well. In our lives storms rage: divorces, deaths, and sickness touch each one of us. Where is that guy whom the winds and seas listen to? Wait is he on the shore? Did we not invite him in the middle of this cataclysmic life storm? Or as some say, "Good grief, we are dying here and who's that guy sleeping in the corner over there?" We crawl to shore beaten to a pulp with all the strength that we have and think are we going to make it? Well from what I have gleaned from reading, yes you will make it. You were never alone in the first place.
We as humans get our "aha" moments reflecting on our storms and we realize the guy sleeping in the boat knew what we needed and when we needed it. Oh ye of little faith. Sound familiar? Ironically today my quote of the day was from Plinty the Elder. It stated, "How many things are looked upon as impossible until they have actually been effected?" This is good food for the brain and the connection is so ironic to my reflection.
Here's your daily lesson. Plinty the elder lived AD 23-79 in Rome, Italy. What's historical about AD 79? Mount Vesuvius erupted causing many deaths. Guess who was in a ship trying to rescue a friend and his family when the prevailing wind caused the sixth and largest pyroclastic surge? Alert! New vocabulary word: pyroclastic is relating to, consisting of, or denoting fragments of rocks erupted by a volcano. Thank you wiki! The wind that day brought Plinty the Elder's life to an end at 56 years of age. You like history yet? It's good stuff. Now, let's think about the quote. Nothing is impossible unless we never try. So today, be an agent of conquering the impossible. Wake up that guy in your boat and ride the storm out. You will have storms but your life also has purpose.
