Oh those gas prices

I have to admit that all through this gas price increase issue, that I held out hope…Yes, hope that, especially in a political year, someone, somewhere would fly in with their Superman cape on and save the day…..it looks like it is not going to happen.

The other afternoon after work I turned on the national news and about the time I did, a "White House spokesman" was telling the American public that, in so many words, you are just going to have to deal with this gas situation..I think he said we would all have to adjust in other areas…That is just plain depressing…

Yes, I really did have faith and believe that one day, in the not too distant future that someone would come out and say "gas prices will take a dramatic drop within the next few months"…looks like now we won't hear those words..at least not anytime soon…

I sure don't begin to have any answers…but I know this..in making my rounds each week, that subject-gas prices--is the number one topic among a lot of people…the problem is…like groceries, we must have gas…and yes, we can all cut back and make fewer trips and stay in town 100 per cent of the time, etc. etc. But why should we ??

I saw someone interviewed last week and they said…"Americans shouldn't be subjected to this and shouldn't have to live like this"….agreed.

Remember when gas went over $2.00 per gallon and we were all up in arms ?? well…wouldn't you like to see $2.50 per gallon now ?? how good would that look ?? probably the same way that the current $3.l9 per gallon is going to look in about a year…perception is amazing….

So what is the solution…or is there a solution….will we ever go back or are we destined to continue to inch forward with gas prices ?? so many questions…so few answers……the American public is screaming for mercy…is anyone…make that anyone out there listening ?? does anyone care ??

I thought I had this situation in hand…I had signed up for the do-not-call list several months ago…I was tired of being interrupted during the dinner hour or on Saturday afternoons during a great game on television by someone either trying to sell me something or trying to promote their cause, whatever it may be....

Tourney Time

That magical, special time of the year is here….district basketball tournaments have started all around West Tennessee..they will be followed by regionals, which will be followed by sub-states which of course will be followed by state tournaments… The start of tournament play signals the beginning of a second season so to speak. It's a new chance. Its an opportunity to show your wares…to become the team you thought you were all along…to be a cinderella at the dance…...

A New Year

Ah….2008 has arrived….a new year….. Like a lot of people, I enjoy the arrival of a new year….yes, I enjoy the rituals of the new year like bowl games, and hog jowl and cabbage and black eyed peas….but there is much more than that. I enjoy the start of a new year, because it gives you a chance to take a deep breath..reflect back the year just past, and yes, make some resolutions for the next 12 months period...

Be thankful

+- We are at the holiday season..Thanksgiving…Christmas ….New Year's…time to celebrate…time to rejoice…time to reflect…time to share…time to be thankful…this is going to be a rather somber holiday season for those of us left in our family.. My mother passed away in late September…she believed in holidays…and she believed in families being together on those special occasions….she will be deeply missed as we go through the holidays….it won't be the same without Thanksgiving dinner at her house or spending Christmas eve and Christmas Day with her…. ...

The official start to fall is just a few days away...but already one of fall's premier events is underway.....yes, football is alive and well in Dyersburg and Dyer County...it is just in the early stages of the season, but already both local high school football teams have had early success...
