Tourney Time

That magical, special time of the year is here….district basketball tournaments have started all around West Tennessee..they will be followed by regionals, which will be followed by sub-states which of course will be followed by state tournaments…

The start of tournament play signals the beginning of a second season so to speak. It's a new chance. Its an opportunity to show your wares…to become the team you thought you were all along…to be a cinderella at the dance…

Tournaments are mulligans…everyone starts even. No matter how you fared in regular season, it really doesn't matter now…It doesn't matter if your record was perfect or very imperfect..most everyone starts at the same square…the teams that played the best in regular district play get better seeds and even first round byes, which they deserve. Tournaments often bring about upsets…teams that maybe have peaked already, go down, and teams that haven't quite found their niche, suddenly get hot and go on tournament rolls….

Over the past few years, we have been fortunate here…three years ago, the Dyersburg Lady Trojans made it to the final round of the state tournaments in Murfreesboro..and just last year, the Dyer County Choctaw boys went all the way to Murfreesboro and are favored to do so again this year…

Tournaments also give fans a mulligan….so you haven't been to all the games or maybe just to a few or maybe you haven't been at all….thats okay…it is a new season and new chance for you to become a big fan of your favorite high school team…put on your favorite color, whether it be the black and gold of Trojanland or the orange and white of Choctaw nation or even maybe the green and gold for the high flying Lake County Falcons…head to the tournament site and cheer like you have been there all year.

Yes, it is a fun time of the year for high school basketball..there is excitement, there is high drama..there will be tears of joy for some and tears of sadness for others…Last second shots, packed gymnasiums, success and failure…its part of our high school madness we call tournament time….

The tournament train is underway and rolling…it doesn't last long…get on the train and enjoy the ride and the very best to our local high schools as they try to live the dream that comes this time of the year…
