'Green funerals' feature biodegradable coffins according to CNN

I knew it was coming, because that's the way I want to go. According to CNN many states have changed their burial laws allowing natural burials, no embalming, biodegradeable coffins, and a tree planted on top: recylcing as nature intended it. As fertilizer my decaying tissues would insure that my namesake tree (I like Tulip Poplars) grows fast and healthy. In a few years almost 99% of my molecules (Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen) would exist above ground as bark, leaves, wood, etc. Birds would sing and nest in my branches, squirrels fighting for territory, Katydids and Cicadas humming away on a hot, summer, night. Well, you get the idea. It may not be the common notion of reincarnation, but it's pretty close don't you think? It also costs much less than conventional burials.

But what about decay before the funeral? Deep freeze.

What about make-up? I don't know. But if California, Florida, New York, South Carolina and, believe it or not, Texas, can do it, why can't Tennessee?

I'll just go ahead and start working on my own casket now. Baltic birch plywood seems in order. Also I'd better make it extra wide, in case that 2012 thing doesnt pan out and I gain a few pounds in the celebration.

Plant a giant sequoia over me so my molecules will stay above ground for several thousand years........ couldn't ask for better than that...........

Sounds like a great idea to me. And think of what pleasant areas cemeteries would be under that scheme. Sign me up for a pear tree. Finally all this nitrogen I've been carrying around would be good for something.
