Rep. Bill Sanderson en-us Term limits resolution signed by governor The Congressional Term Limits resolution passed the General Assembly on Feb 4, 2016. That's right -- contrary to what has been portrayed through the numerous radio ads, full-page newspaper ads, the Facebook posts, and all the other ways the out-of-state lobbyists have tried to muddy the waters on the issue, it passed and was signed by the Governor on Feb 9, 2016. You see, a group of very dedicated individuals who wanted it to succeed, came to the Capitol early this year to have it passed.... Fri, 29 Jan 2016 00:00:51 -0600 2014 Legislative Session - Week 1 The first week of the 2014 legislative session here in Nashville has come and gone. As usual it was productive and I had a chance to meet with a number of friends and colleagues. The beginning of the week I had meetings with leadership to discuss legislation that was left on the table from last year. This year we have promised to make private sector job creation a top priority. After it was announced that Tennessee was "2013 State of the Year" by a national publication, Business Facilities... Fri, 24 Jan 2014 00:04:14 -0600 Weekly Update | 108th General Assembly (Feb. 26) Hello Friends, We had another busy and successful week on Capitol Hill. I had a chance to meet with some new and old friends who were part of the political process trying to make this state a better place for all of us. Each week seems to renew my faith in our district and those around the state who try to make this the best state in the country. Dyersburg residents Natalie Ryan, Shelley Payne, Jane Davidson, and Leanne Childress were in Nashville to talk with... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 13:58:02 -0600 Weekly Update: 108th General Assembly Friends, I had another productive and exciting week in Nashville! Each week seems to bring a set of new challenges for myself and my staff. Some of the main issues facing the district are always on my mind and this week we made another step forward in finding some solutions. I am in the process of finalizing a meeting at the Lannom center on Feb 22, 2013 to meet with the Commissioner of Transportation. I reached out to the office of the Commissioner and he gladly accepted an... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 12:31:04 -0600 Commissioner of Agriculture to Visit Hey guys, this will be the first time in a long time we have had the Commissioner of Agriculture to visit North West Tennessee for 2-days. I am going to give him the grand tour! I will be honored to have Julius Johnson attend several events with me later this week. Everyone is invited to have cat-fish with us at Reelfoot Lake Lakeview Dining room at 7:00 p.m. this Thursday (Dutch treat). Then on Friday, we will have breakfast at Union City Farm Bureau. Right after breakfast we are touring... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 15:32:00 -0500 Monday 07/18/11 We had a full agenda for our first full day in Beijing. After an early wake up call, we were off to the 2008 Olympic village. WOW. For those that do not follow Olympic events, this might not be a big deal, but for me, I watch almost every event possible event on every Olympics. It was almost weird just standing on the same ground as did the best athletes in the world. Garrett and I both purchased 50-YEN tickets to enter the "Bird's Nest" Olympic stadium. This area holds 90,000 people and is... Tue, 19 Jul 2011 12:42:01 -0500 Sunday- Beijing Sunday morning: we left Wuhan bright and early for the early flight to Beijing. We are staying at the Sun World Hotel, another 4-star hotel. It is very nice and best of all, right across the street from a small China McDonalds. After an Asian Big Mac, 13-of us made our way to the "The Forbidden City" and "Tian' Anmen Square". Again, words will not express the size, beauty and sheer magnitude of The Forbidden City. Please look this up on the internet and read all about it. We have all heard of... Sun, 17 Jul 2011 18:38:48 -0500 Day-5 Day 5: Today we finally saw the rain. I know Tennessee is hot and humid right now, but don't think we are missing out. It is very humid in Nanjing today. We drove 3.5 hours from Suzhou and Nanjing. At our restroom stops Garrett bought some Chinese candy. He pointed out there were no Snickers, Milky-ways or Milk Duds. There are no candy bars here, just little boxes of bite sized hard candy. Our Chinese guide, Oscar, rode up front in the bus beside me and Garrett. After several grilling... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 07:32:38 -0500 Day:4 Day 5: We were all up early as usual and dog tired last night, we are still not on China time. I am beginning to feel it will take at least 1-week to get on this new time zone. For the 4th day in a row, we ate a traditional Chinese dinner. Evidentially, most Chinese dinners are served family style. The food is brought out and put on a huge lazy-susan in the middle of the table. As the servers deems necessary, she brings out dishes and places them in the middle of the table. Garrett will eat (or... Tue, 12 Jul 2011 18:40:00 -0500 Day: 3 Today was our first day on the town. Words will not express what we saw today. I thought New York and Chicago were big. They are nothing to compare. This is city has 2- of the tallest buildings in the world. It has 20-million people, it is modern, clean, and beautiful. Just a few years ago, 25% of all the construction cranes in the world were hear building sky scrapers. They have the arts, convention centers, culture. I see them being denied anything. My fellow representatives and I were... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 16:53:16 -0500 Day 2: We made it it China. Boy oh boy, it was a tough trip. We traveled with the sun, flew over Alaska and the North Pole. We had the sun coming in the window for the entire trip. It is hard to sleep with the sun in your face, continuious movies being played and food and drinks coming all night. Oh well, we did make it to the hotel by 9:00 P.M. Saturday night China time... or 10:00 A.M. Sunday morning Kenton time ??? I think. This city is huge! 20- million people. Memphis is about 1- million, Chicago is 5-million. It is... Sun, 10 Jul 2011 18:03:04 -0500 (Untitled) Day-1: Garrett and I left Kenton at 5:30 this morning. We met my sister and she drove us to the airport (free parking). We met 4-other West Tennessee Representatives at the airport for the 10:00 flight. We met up with the other Tennessee delegation in Detroit just in time for a 1:00 lunch and a 3-hour layover. We all leave on a 747 for Shanghai at 4:30 today (Saturday), but we get to Shanghai Sunday at 7:00 p.m. I know the hours do not add up. There is no way that flight is that long...... Sun, 10 Jul 2011 17:52:16 -0500 Chinese Legislative Trip Follow me and my son Garrett and 14 State Representatives on a trip to 5 city's in China. We will meet with Chinese leaders, and visit some of the Great landmarks. We will have daily postings with pictures and information about our day. Sat, 09 Jul 2011 14:32:32 -0500
