The Ping-Pong grudge match
Posted Tuesday, September 29, at 11:47 AM
Recently I have gotten in touch with some old friends through Facebook ( something I swore I would never do ) and the strangest thing happened. One of the people happened to be a cracker jack tennis player and with my usual smart mouth I challenged her to a game of Ping Pong. Now that is where the craziness started. We started taking shots at each other on FB and one thing led to another and some pictures were posted and lets just say I am the only one playing by the, unwritten, rules. She has bribed my family to her side of the fan base with promises of food. Anyone who knows my family can say, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this is way out of line. You give my family sweets and they will jump at the chance to go to the DARK side. I had to promise a 5th grader a trip to Kings Island to get someone on my side. Wow its lonely at the top. Now dont get me wrong, she will be a formidable opponent but I got some game myself. I am getting the feeling this is taking on a Billy Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs aura. I am afraid that there will be 100 people there with cookie crumbs in their hair and chocolate smeared on their faces chanting for her to take me down. I have been training non-stop for this event and I hope it is not a futile attempt to save face. I do know this as fact. I can beat her in golf!!! Seriously, I hope everyone will still be friends when its over and nothing gets broken. I mean bones and furniture. I have a tendency to plow into lazyboy chairs when I get fired up. I guess I will just have to take my catchers helmet and hope for the best. One thing is for sure, I have had a blast getting back in touch with old friends and this will be a great way to enjoy them even more. This event is going to take place over the Christmas break and I guess I need to ask Santa for a win against her. I didnt know this was getting to me so much but I think I am losing hair because of all the stress. ha Fun will be had by all and it will be a fun night. I guarantee it!!!
The Next Chapter Well the time has come for my son to start the next chapter of his life. I could sit here and tell you that I have tears welling up in my eyes and I am so sad that he is leaving. I am sad that he wont be here to laugh at my stupid jokes and watch Nitro Circus with me but more than anything, I am soooo jealous. ...
Lifetime Friendships As one grows older there seems to be many things that change. Some for the better and others, not so good. One that I have found that is very good is the friendships that started when I was in college. Sports brought us together as roommates and time has only made these friendships more precious. ...
The Chosen One chose the wrong path Once again I see where a big time sports celebrity had a chance to do the right thing and dropped the ball. Thanks Lebron James. I see your jerseys in every store and most of the kids I see, in public, have something with your name on it. Those same kids mimic your every move and now they will walk away when a hand is offered to them after a contest. ...
Goodbye Old Friend Not too long from now I will be saying goodbye to an old friend that I have known for the past 41 years. This friend has been probably the best friend I have ever had. He helped me through some dark times and celebrated with me in some of my happiest times. ...
Priorities I recently read an article that dealt with a coach, in New Jersey, that knelt with his players before games to pray. Get this, the courts said he appeared to be pushing religion. Uhhh yea!!!! I'm sure he was and I applaud him. How much more bad things have to happen, in our country, before everyone starts pushing religion? It seems like the courts have more important things to do than pick on a coach who, obviously, has good moral character. ...
Shut Up Anguan! Like my mom always said "There will always be someone who will rain on the parade.". She was right. Lately, in the news, there is someone raining on the Phoenix Cardinals parade. His name is Anquan Boldin. Let's try to get the time line right. He strains a hamstring in an earlier playoff...
'Finished' Let me start this by saying that I grew up an Ohio State fan. The high school attended was founded by a former president of Ohio State. Our Alma Mater had the same tune, our colors were the same. Woody Hayes was the coach and despite his crazy antics he built a winning program and even won a national championship while he was there. ...
My Hero Recently, my son and I have been going to different colleges to work out for the baseball coach in hopes that he will see enough talent, in my son, nto warrant a scholarship. We are lucky because he has the grades and ACT scores to pay for his education at a state school without a baseball scholarship. ...
What economic slowdown? Have you seen some of the figures that are being thrown around for next years contracts? Baseball, football, and all pro sports are telling that the contracts will be pretty much the same as they have been. I have been tightening my belt and so have most of my friends and family. It doesn't...
