David vs. Goliath

Classic story wasn't it? The cocky, arrogant, sickening, pretty boys got just what they deserved. All their, tongue in cheek, comments and all the smirks on their faces came back to haunt them. It seems like we get used to the rich getting richer and the haves beating the have not's, but when the tortoise beats the hare it makes for riveting television. Look at the ratings for this Super Bowl. The most watched program in television history behind the final episode of M*A*S*H. Must be a lot of people like me, out there, that wanted to see the same thing. That and the possibility to see the Patriots go undefeated. New England was outcoached, outplayed, out hustled, out gatorated, out everythinged Sunday night and I loved it. The two weeks between the playoffs and the Super Bowl were more wisely spent by the victors and that earned them the win. Can you imagine what the Manning's' talk about when they get together at Archie's house? Those conversations are going to be even more interesting now. I have to admit that I am not a big Manning fan but, dang, they have earned all my respect. Hopefully there will be even more exciting Super Bowls in the future but I don't think there will ever be one as fulfilling, for me, as this year when Goliath hit the ground HARD!

I don't know about the Patriots being cocky, arrogant or sickening. Everything I've ever seen of the more popular players, Brady, Seau, Bruschi, Welker seemed to be humble, honest guys. Hell even Randy Moss shut his mouth and just played this season. Even on talk radio this week Brady was humble and said they didn't play as well as they could have. He didn't make excuses or blame the refs or anything stupid. But if you hate the Pats, I know where you're coming from because I'm a diehard Orioles fan and it hurts every fiber of being to admit Jeter will probably go down as a better shortstop than Ripken jr. I will never like or enjoy the success of a team I hate but I can surely admit when they are successfull.
