Three Oaks Middle School hosted the winners of the Dyer County School District's 2012 Red Ribbon Essay contest with a special ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 6. The annual essay contest, sponsored by the Dyer County Sheriff's Department, is an initiative designed to teach students the importance of saying "NO!" to drugs and alcohol. This year's theme was "Say 'Peace Out' to Drugs!" Students earning the top three places in five grade categories of the annual essay contest were recognized and offered the chance to share their essays with those assembled in the school cafeteria. Family members, community leaders, and faculty and staff members from TOMS, Trimble Elementary School and Fifth Consolidated were moved by many personal accounts of how drugs and alcohol have affected local students.
