Dyer County High School hosted the 20th annual Investment in Excellence assembly on Wednesday, Oct. 23. A time-honored Choctaw tradition, the event offers a custom that has brought the community together to celebrate excellence for two full decades. The annual assembly is an opportunity for educators and administrators to acknowledge the achievements of the top ten percent of the sophomore, junior and senior classes - and to announce the school's Most Valuable Choctaw. Anne Larrah Johnson, daughter of Leigh Anne Walker and the late Larry Johnson, earned the title. Other candidates included Andy Campbell, son of Michael and Susan Campbell; Colton Samuel Chaffin, son of Bill and Brenda Chaffin; Tucker Cozort, son of Shane and Jennifer Cozort; and Maddie Petty, daughter of Richie and Jessica Petty. DCHS Assistant Principal Matt Stafford, the school's first Most Valuable Choctaw, was the featured speaker for the event.
