Holocaust survivor speaks to Northview students

Clark Blatteis, a Holocaust survivor and passenger of the ill-fated SS St. Louis, shared his story with seventh graders at Northview Middle School on Friday, Dec. 13. Born in Berlin the year before Hitler was named Prime Minister of Germany, the engaging Blatteis gave an overview of events leading up to the Nazi regime in his home country and his experience as a 7-year-old passenger on the SS St. Louis. Blatteis, who now lives in Memphis, is a Holocaust Survivor and a veteran of the U.S. military. He and his wife, Yolanda, were named Honorary Choctaws at the event.
