Relay for Life of Dyer County recently held a meeting at Dyersburg State Community College in preparation for their upcoming event on Saturday, May 31. During the meeting, The State Gazette and Burks Broadcasting were announced as the winners of the American Cancer Society's Media Award. The award is for the Mid-South Division of the ACS and recognizes the continued support the two companies display in ensuring the public stays aware of the American Cancer Society's mission, the Relay for Life event, and cancer survivors' stories. Dyer County Relay for Life Community Promotions Chair Rachel Cartwright, and Candace Dean, ACS Relay for Life specialist, presented State Gazette Editor Jason Canon and Dee Bishop, SL 100 account executive, with the award. Local cancer survivors provided a delicious supper for the crowd. And Honorary Youth Chair Caulen Tharpe from the 2012 Relay For Life attended.
