DCHS cadets conduct survival training at Milan Training Facility

On Nov. 2 and 3, cadets from the Dyer County High School JROTC had the opportunity to put two weeks of instruction together in an overnight survival scenario. NCOs from the Tennessee National Guard were asked to be guest lecturers on the topic of survival and provide the cadets with a live scenario that would teach the cadets how to stay overnight if a situation presented itself. ...

Dyersburg firefighters complete food drive for Matthew 25:40

A recent food drive by Dyersburg Fire Fighters Association Local 2269 kicked off both the season of giving and what members of the organization plan to be a long line of service projects in the community. Members of the DFFA recently met at the Furniture Gallery to present over 100 cases of food to Matthew 25:40 Executive Director Amy McDonald. The group considers its first service project a great success...

Trimble soldier lands Chinook for fuel stop at Dyersburg airport

On Thursday afternoon, there was a rumble in the western sky as a U.S. Army CH-47 'Chinook' helicopter approached the Dyersburg airport. This aircraft was a special op's bird assigned to Task Force, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment 'Night Stalkers' out of Ft. Lewis, Wash. It was being flown to Kentucky for some equipment upgrades. It was being piloted by Chief Warrant Officer 2 David Powell (center) of Trimble, Tenn. CW2 Powell is the son of CW3 (Retired) David Powell (right) and Detria Powell (left) of Trimble. CW2 Powell and crew planned to use the Dyersburg airport as one of their refueling stops en route to Kentucky. While on the ground they enjoyed a meal at the airport restaurant, and thanked the airport employees for their assistance.

Chimes for Charity brings in more than $8,000 Thursday

Dr. Troy Kerber and Elizabeth Dickerson as 'The Voice' judges hosted Thursday night's Chimes for Charity. A grand total of 181 children were sponsored Thursday with $8,041 raised. A special guest called in at the last minute and sponsored 40 children for $1,000. 'This was the best Thursday night total in several years!' said Chimes for Charity's Kim Hill. Friday night's sponsor is Firestone Industrial Products.

County School Board upholds discipline of DCHS student

The Dyer County School Board upheld a decision of the Disciplinary Hearing Authority at its regular November meeting. Dyer County School Board Chairman Mike McLaughlin provided a short timeline on the events leading up to an appeal by the family of a Dyer County High School student reprimanded to the alternative school this fall. Power Board OKs look at DES pension, hike in CableOne pole fee

Members of the Power Board approved a look into the Dyersburg Electric System's pension program and a pole-attachment fee increase for CableOne at the organization's regular November meeting. Dyersburg Mall sells for $4.35 million

Bidders participating in the auction for the Dyersburg Mall put on a show on Thursday as bids escalated throughout the early afternoon, adding over $1 million to the selling price in less than one hour. The bid, just over $3 million shortly before 1 p.m., first rose in $100,000 increments with bidders often waiting until a few seconds before the purchase became final before entering the next bid.
