George Russell Williams
who for 36 years ran Williams Furniture at Four Points, died Saturday night at his home south of Dyersburg.
Born Oct. 27, 1930 to Fred and Evie Williams in St. Joseph, Tenn., he moved with his family to the Bruceville community in 1937 along with a sister and five brothers. Williams was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Coral Sea for two years and at Norfolk, Va. for two years.
He was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church and a Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Polly; one son, Doug; and three grandchildren, Sarah Atkeson and Adam Williams of Fowlkes and Kyle Williams of Springfield, Ill,; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea Atkeson, Scarlett Williams, J.R. Williams and Leigh Ann Campbell; and three brothers, Bob Williams of Tiptonville, Laramore Williams of Memphis and Pete Williams of Friendship.
Visitation is scheduled at 5 p.m. today at Halls Funeral Home with funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Brother Walt Asher and Brother Frank Gardner will officiate.
Pallbearers will be David Williams, Don Williams, Ricky Williams, Tommy Ownby, Joe Hooper and Tom Eison Jr.
