He was a retired factory worker.
Services will be in at 2 p.m. today in the Tiptonville chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Davis officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Plunkett Matheny of Wynnburg; two daughters, Jerrie Jeanice Thomson of Dresden and Melissa Darlene Matheny of Wynnburg; a son, David Alan Matheny of Jackson; a sister, Brooksie Nelle Haggard of Parsons; two brothers, Marion Lee Matheny of Newbern and Lester Eugene Matheny of Campbellsburg, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Matheny Lovett; and two brothers, J.W. Matheny and Billy Matheny.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Jones, Johnny Ward, Jackie Deason, Leroy Cook, Larry Watts, Mark Farley and Johnny Turner.
