He was a retired major in the United States Air Force, wing commander of the Dyersburg Senior Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, served two years with the National Guard, served two tours in the Vietnam War, a member of B58 Association, a member of Spectar Association, VFW, American Legion Jere Cooper Post #30, 32nd Degree Mason Scottish Rite of West Memphis, Ark., a member of Peru-Miami, Ind. Lodge #67 F & AM, Shriner with Sahara Temple in Pine Bluff, Ark., Knights Templar of Olivet Lodge #20 in Blytheville, Ark., a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and commercial licensed pilot with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Chaplain George Winters and Bob Dean officiating.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Vatcher; two daughters, Holly Trowbridge and husband, Tony of Bartlett and Meg Hargett and husband, Danny, of Jackson; two sisters, Phyllis Hill of Amberts, N.H. and Laurette Morley of Meredith, N.H.; and a grandchild, Destin Hargett of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcia Bowler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to Dyer County Rescue Squad, 401 Cedar Street, Dyersburg 38024.
