He was a retired mechanic from Rick Hill Nissan and a member of Phillips Street Church of Christ.
Services were at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Brother Dustin Forthun officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Dowdy of Dyersburg; a daughter, Judy Martin of Dyersburg; two sons, Johnny Dowdy and Jerry Dowdy, both of Dyersburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie V. and Jewell Alene Dowdy; two sisters, Hester King and Bonnie Tate; and a brother, Bill Dowdy Sr.
Pallbearers were James Jones, Clark Riddick, Edgar Shults, Franklin Robertson, Gene Phillips and Ed Gatlin.
