Sheriff hopes mailbox vandalism is over

Tuesday, June 29, 2004
Sheriff's deputies took an adult and two minors into custody on Sunday and hope those arrests will put an end to a rash of mailbox vandalisms in the Newbern-Roellen area.

Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Holt said that over the past few weeks 59 mailboxes in that area of the county had been damaged or destroyed by vandals leading to a public outcry. Some residents reported seeing a pickup truck in the vicinity of the vandalisms.

Early Sunday morning at 1:24 a.m., Holt's office received a call regarding a mailbox vandalism on Meacham road. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the area.

The deputies stopped a vehicle on Hamer Road that matched the general description of the pickup truck used by the vandals. In the bed of the truck, the officers found part of a mailbox that had been vandalized that night and also a baseball bat the subjects were allegedly using to hit mailboxes as they drove down the road.

Deputies arrested Timothy J. Camaso, 18, of Boothspoint Road in Lenox and two juveniles ages 16 and 17. All three have been charged with vandalism over $1,000. Camaso has also been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
