He was a retired employee of the City of Slidell and U.S. Army National Guard.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Schoen Funeral Home in Slidell, La. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Dawn F. Barnes and Linda B. Broyles, both of Ripley; a son, U.S. Marine SSGT John O. Barnes and wife, Nancy Jean Parker Barnes, of Dyersburg and currently stationed in Iraq; a sister, Jeanie Barnes of Slidell, La.; four brothers, Mevlin Barnes of Bay St. Louis, Miss., George Barnes of Pearlington, Miss., Major James Barnes of Phoenix, Ariz., and Tommy Barnes of Gulfport, Miss.; three grandchildren, Elisabeth Barnes, Joseph Barnes and Colton Broyles; two nieces; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Ohlenforst Barnes; his parents, Marvin Barnes and Kathleen Barnes; and a grandson, Christopher Broyles.
