Dr. Homer Edward Johns

Dr. Homer Edward Johns, 90, of Jackson, died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Jackson General Hospital.

Johns was born in Dyer County, the son of the late Arter Edward and Effie Collins Johns. He spent almost 50 years as a United Methodist Minister including six years as District Superintendent of the Brownsville District. He was a graduate of Lambuth College and continued to remain active in various functions of the school for many years.

During his tenure in the ministry he served on many committees in the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church. He received many recognitions during his lifetime including the honor of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Lambuth University.

Services were Monday at First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Dr. Paul Clayton, the Rev. David Weatherly and the Rev. Nowell Bingham will officiate. George A. Smith and Sons funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
