He was a retired U.S. Navy chief petty officer, chairman of the Dyer County Election Commission, member of Hess Masonic Lodge, First United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, state commander of Tennessee in 1976, member of Outpost Sunday School class, a World War II, Korean and Vietnam War veteran, served in numerous leadership positions on a variety of aircraft carriers and other vessels before retiring after 30 years of service in 1976.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church with Doctor Phillip Cook and the Rev. Wade Cox officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
