Moving out of Station No. 2, which is located near the Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, has been a topic of discussion between the DFD and the city board since 1994. Veal admitted a decision on the building might be deferred by the city board into future budget years. Still, in the upcoming budget, he has made a replacement station, estimated to cost about $300,000, a priority. Veal explained that not only is the existing Station No. 2 inadequate in terms of modern firefighting realities, the new building would be located on the north side of the city directly across Interstate 155 from a 3,900-acre area that Dyersburg is considering for annexation.
