Fire chief wants to replace station

Monday, June 12, 2006
The top item on Dyersburg Fire Chief Bob Veal's wish list for 2006-07 is replacing Fire Station No. 2 with a facility that would be located on the grounds of the city's new water plant.

Moving out of Station No. 2, which is located near the Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, has been a topic of discussion between the DFD and the city board since 1994. Veal admitted a decision on the building might be deferred by the city board into future budget years. Still, in the upcoming budget, he has made a replacement station, estimated to cost about $300,000, a priority. Veal explained that not only is the existing Station No. 2 inadequate in terms of modern firefighting realities, the new building would be located on the north side of the city directly across Interstate 155 from a 3,900-acre area that Dyersburg is considering for annexation.
