Tennessee residents may take any unwanted hazardous household substances to the collection event between 8 a.m. and noon at the Dyer County Fairgrounds. The service is free, but it is open only to households. Businesses and commercial interests are not allowed to participate.
"Hazardous household substances" is an umbrella term describing flammable, corrosive, reactive and toxic substances that we commonly use at home. It may include drain openers, oven cleaners, carburetor cleaners, air-conditioning refrigerants, oil-based paint, pesticides, fingernail-polish remover, pool chemicals and fluorescent bulbs. Passenger tires and electronics scrap, such as central processing units, home computer printers and cathode ray tubes, also will be accepted on Saturday.
