Charlene's damaged by blaze

A valiant effort by three fire departments kept a blaze from destroying the Charlene's Colony of Shoppes boutiques two miles west of Halls on Friday.

Smoke was spotted at about 6:30 a.m., and Halls police officers arrived on the scene to find flames engulfing the roof of one building of the five-building complex. The buildings housed Charlene's home décor operation, offices and a warehouse used to store antiques.

The warehouse was the only part totalled.
