Effie Mae Gross, 100, of Newbern, formerly of Coldiron, Ky., died Saturday, oct. 6, 2007 at her residence.
She was a midwife.
Graveside services will be in Coldiron Cemetery in Coldiron, Ky. with the Rev. Clark Freeman officiating. Johnson-Williams Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements and Loyall Funeral Home in charge of arrangements in Kentucky.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Funderburk and husband, Louie, of Newbern; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Gross; and two great-grandchildren.
William Thomas Putman, 86, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center.
He was a retired U.S. Postal employee, a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, a member of Vern Forcum Sunday School Class, Senior choir member, Methodist Men and an usher; National Guard for 21 years, a Mason, volunteer Red Coat at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, Civitan Club and AARP.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Dr. Phillip Cook the Rev. Terry Presson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
The family will receive visitors at 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Putman of Dyersburg; two daughters, Joyce Tuller of Munford and Marjorie Kiwain of Dyersburg; three grandchildren, Tim Robertson, Jeri Lynn Taylor and Jennifer Kiwala; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Robertson, Casey, Carrie, and Cody Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Callie Mae Kee Putman; and a sister, Mary Estelle Putman.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Armstrong, Lowell Beck, Roy Campbell, John Fisher, Jimmy Putman and Bubba Hendren. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Anderson, Joe Campbell, Jackie Claiborne, Charles Haggard, Aubrey Hays, Jim Putman, Johnny Reaves, J.D. Stephens, John White and members of Vern Forcum Sunday School class.
The family requests that any memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church Pastor's Discretionary Fund.
