Mary Alice Badgett, 81, of Friendship, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 in Memphis.

She was a retired hairdresser and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Melton officiating. Burial will be in Bellevernon Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include a niece, Melody Badgett of Memphis; five nephews, Steve Badgett of Murrieta, Calif., Chuck Badgett and Tim Badgett, both of Memphis, Rusty Badgett of Collierville and David Badgett of Murfreesboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Beauton Haley Badgett.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.


Lillie Mae Ballard Carman, 90, of Bardwell, Ky., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 at Clinton/Hickman ICF.

She was a Baptist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Bardwell with the Rev. Joshua Pendergrass officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include four daughters, Kathleen Kilburn of Tiptonville, Barbara Franklin of Dyersburg, Carolyn Hutchinson of Bardwell, Ky. and Joyce Birmingham of Arlington, Ky.; a son, Delbert Ballard of Union City; a sister, Ann Phebus of Kenton; a brother, Henry Baucom of Dyersburg; 40 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Carman; two daughters, Dorothy Lou Swift and Mary Aline Swift; three sons, Jimmy Storm, G.W. Swift and Jerry Thomas Swift; her parents, Harrison and Willie Akins Baucom; four brothers; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.


Clara L. "Clara Bell" Fortner, 90, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 at Wesley at Dyersburg Nursing Center.

She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances M. Clark of Dyersburg; four sons, James R. "J.R." Fortner and Elvis L. Fortner, both of Newbern, Charles W. Fortner and Richard E. Fortner, both of Dyersburg; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Levi Fortner; a daughter, Janet Leigh Fortner; and her parents, Joseph Coleman Bryant and Beulah Melviney Woodall Bryant.

Pallbearers will be Tony Barnes, Dennis Bryant, Kenneth Bryant, Charles Harris, David Harris and Marty Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to the American Heart Association.


Mable F. Shelton, 77, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

She was a beautician and a former employee of Dyersburg Fabrics and Penguin USA, a member of First Baptist Church, but attended Fowlkes Methodist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with Bro. John Lowrance officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely.

The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria F. Bryan of Dyersburg, Lisa A. Butler of Newbern and Shannon M. Mayo of Belle Chasse, La.; two sons, Kent P. Shelton of Portland, Ore. and Graylen H. Shelton of Houston, Texas; special friend and companion, Eugene Stutts; three sisters, Helen Simms of Springfield, Mo., Esther Sutton of Lebanon, Mo. and Betty Taffer of Raven Den, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Rob Allen, Jeremy Shelton, Jordan Shelton, Dylan Shelton, Christopher Curtis, Cody Mayo and Sarah Mayo; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Hollis and Grady Shelton; three sisters, Pearl Cagle, Ruby Bettis and Rose Mooney; two brothers; and a grandchild, Noah Walton Mayo.

Pallbearers will be Lewis Shelton, Mike Shelton, Mike Heathcott, Phillip Heathcott, Dallas Castleman Jr., Olen Shelton and Rusty Canada. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Bryan, Russ Butler, Michael Mayo and grandsons.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Fowlkes Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
