Vernelle "Nell" Ashley, 94, of Newbern, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at her residence.

She was a homemaker, a member of Newbern First Baptist Church, Berean Sunday School and spent two years at Fisher Aircraft in Memphis building B25.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Klutts officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.

The family will receive visitors at 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha L. Thomas and husband, Lyle, of Merrillville, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Clara Burns and husband, Marshall, of Dyersburg and Linda Wells of Haslett, Mich.; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Edward Godwin and Hollis Ashley; her parents, Foster and Ella Bell Burch; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Benson; two brothers, Jessie B. Burch and William Curtis; a grandson, Delbert "Jake" Thomas; and a step-granddaughter, Felicia Reaves.

Pallbearers will be Bill Adcock, Joe Elmore, Jeff Thomas, Barry Ladd, Jimmy Flowers and Alan Wilks


Luther Jones, 89, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 at Wesley at Dyersburg Nursing Center.

He was a retired employee of Colonial Rubber and farmer and an Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Beech Grove Church in Dyersburg with the Rev. Al Seward officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dyersburg.

The family will receive visitors at noon-4 p.m. Saturday at H.H. Hudson Funeral Home in Dyersburg.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Jones of Dyersburg; a son, Frank Jones of Flint, Mich.; a sister, alma Smith of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Clauzell Jones of Toledo, Ohio and Fred Jones of Flint, Mich.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


Stephen Thomas Paschall, 56, of Ridgely, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at his residence.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Ridgely Church of Christ.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely with the Rev. Rick Burton officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a sister, Donna Neblett and husband, George, of Union City; three brothers, John L. Paschall and wife, Barbara, of Phoenix, Ariz., David Paschall of David and Mike Paschall of Franklin; two nieces; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Loretta Paschall.
