As the wife of a pastor, Newbern resident Lacricia Peters often finds herself in the counseling position as others frequently ask her advice on personal and religious matters. While Peters has been more than willing to take on the role, over the years she began to ponder a certain question, which is now the basis of her debut novel entitled "Girl, Naw!"

"Since many religious leaders are often put on a pedestal by people who think their family or personal lives should be perfect, I often wondered who counsels the counselor," said Peters. "That's when I came up with the premise for my first book about three years ago."

Peters, who is already working on her second novel, will be signing copies from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov 17, at Hastings Entertainment, located in the Green Village Shopping Center in Dyersburg.

"Girl, Naw!" is the story of Antoinette Walker. Antoinette has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Those who know and respect her think she has it all: a wonderful husband, children who thrive in school, and a growing counseling practice. However, as with most people, there is a lot more to her than what the eye can see. When hidden things from Antoinette's past begin to surface, it threatens to destroy everything she loves. Only God can give her the strength to continue counseling other women, as she struggles with her own issues of forgiveness. Through the pages in the novel, Peters encourages her readers to examine who is really hurt by unforgiveness.

"This novel will peak every emotion," said Peters. "It will also help others to know that no one is perfect, but with God all things are possible."

Peters decided to take a different approach to the publishing journey by starting her own company, His Pen Publishing LLC, which she said serves as a reminder that "God is the author, I'm just the vessel He used."

"Currently, I am accepting submissions from authors who wish to spread an inspirational message through fiction or non-fiction," said Peters. "It doesn't cost a thing to the authors. His Pen Publishing takes care of the cost to bind and distribute the books while the authors are paid with royalties."

Oprah should have Lacricia on her show...

"Girl, Naw" sounds like a book that I would like to read. I like the attitude of the author and her title has a ring of authenticity.
