Polly Owen, 91, of Newbern, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at Wesley Care Center in Dyersburg.
She was retired as a teacher for the Dyer County School System at Bogota, a member of Newbern First United Methodist Church, former member of the Dyer County Retired Teachers Association, former member of Dyersburg Woman's Club and a graduate of Union University.
Services were Saturday at Newbern First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dossie Wheatley and the Rev. Richard Carruth officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.
Survivors include a son, Robert Cherry "R.C." Owen Jr. of Newbern; a sister, Atha Thompson McPherson of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brandon Owen Gibson of Alamo and Rob Owen of Newbern; and three-great-grandchildren, Ashlianna Owen and Bradley Owen, both of Newbern and Owen Gibson of Alamo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cherry Owen Sr.; her parents, James Mack and Nancy Hickman Thompson; a sister, Maude Flatt; and three brothers, Calvin "Doodle" Thompson, John V. Thompson and William T. Thompson.
Pallbearers were Jim Pate, Jerry Leach, Luke Allmon, Joe Gibson III, Tony Childress and Mike Thompson.
