Teenager killed when SUV flips

A 17-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle accident north of Union City on Monday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. near the Woodland Mills community at the intersection of Brevard and Garrigan roads a half-mile from Tennessee Highway 5.

According to the report, James M. Isbell, 17, East Bransford St., Union City, was killed when the 1997 GMC Suburban he was driving overturned after running off the road and slamming into an embankment on Garrigan Road.

A passenger, Kristin A. Killebrew, 15, South 6th St., Union City, was injured.

According to the report, Isbell was not wearing a safety belt, which could have contributed to the fatality. Killebrew was wearing a safety belt, the report said.

Alcohol was not indicated as a factor in the accident, said the report.

No matter how much you lead your children, they will still try to do what they want. Jim was taught to wear his seatbelt, but like all other teenagers he never thought it would happen to him! This is a terrible loss but you can't place blame.

Wear seatbelts. There is no excuse. Parents, pay attention and take the lead.

It is so sad that people don't realize how dangerous an SUV is. I have an SUV, so I know that you have to be careful. They do not take curves, very well. I pray for the families of these young people. If you have an SUV, be careful.
