Pedestrian struck by hit-and-run driver

Tuesday, December 4, 2007
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred early Saturday morning south of Halls.

According to the patrol report, a pedestrian walking on U.S. Highway 51 near Dry Hill Road was hit by vehicle at about 1:10 a.m. The car is described as white with a long wheelbase and may be a Dodge Intrepid or similar vehicle with a license plate that may be a Tennessee special issue plate with the smallmouth bass image on the left side.

Damage to the vehicle was described by the patrol as minimal, with possibly only the right-hand outside rearview mirror affected by the impact.

According to the report, the suspect was driving the vehicle northbound at the time of the crash. After the pedestrian was hit, the car is reported to have turned around and stopped and the driver, a white female with long hair in a ponytail got out and called 911. A passenger described as a black male with braided hair also got out of the car. A third person was seen in the rear seat of the car.

After checking on the victim, the car turned around and left driving southbound on 51.

The suspects are reported in their mid-20s to early 30s, the report said.
