Skipper Jones Jr., 79, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was owner of Newman Jones Ford Dealership, Jones Construction and Jones Brothers Tractor Company and a 70-year member of First United Methodist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and lay speaker, past president of the Rotary Club with 45 years of perfect attendance and received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, past president of Jaycees and organized the Art League, Bass Club and the Dyersburg Fairground radio-controlled flyers club, a Shriner and was instrumental in building the new hospital and the Mississippi River Bridge. He designed and built a 65-foot ocean-going yacht that was launched in 1981.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Arrington Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy Jones; a daughter, Christine Parker; two sons, Newman Jones III and Gordon Jones; and a grandson, Justin Parker.
