Residents of a rural Dyersburg home were forced out by smoke after a chimney flue caught fire on Sunday night, firefighters said.
According to Dyer County Sheriff's Department reports, a fire was reported at about 9:15 p.m. at 1380 Fort Hudson Rd. When Newbern Fire Department volunteers arrived, tenant Harold Mallard Jr. had been able to move clothing into a vehicle and muscled a 60-inch big screen television onto the front lawn.
The source of the smoke is thought to have been a fire started in the flue of the wood-burning fireplace in the house.
The wood-frame residence is owned by Calvin Moore Jr.
