James Henry Avery, 76, of Tiptonville, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at his residence.
He was an employee of Tiptonville Police Department and an Army veteran.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at St. John No. 2 Baptist Church in Tiptonville. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Tiptonville. H.H. Hudson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie Avery of Tiptonville; seven daughters, Linda Clay, Veronica Candey, Michelle Avery, all of Tiptonville, Wanda Avery and Pattie Avery Scates, both of Union City and Tammy Hubber and Brendell Avery, both of Dyersburg; and four sons, Charles Fisher, Robert Avery, Bryant Avery and Kevin Avery, all of Tiptonville.
James A. Jackson, Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., passed away Dec. 7, 2007, at his home in Sun City Hilton Head, S.C. He was 69 years old.
He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology he then moved to Dyersburg, where he was employed by Dyersburg Corporation. A longtime resident of Dyersburg he was active in many church, community and civic organizations. He completed his professional career in Cleveland with United Knitting before retiring to Sun City.
Survivors include his wife Sandra; daughter Elizabeth; a son David Jackson and wife, Melanie; and her son Joseph Sevin all of Hilton Head; his mother Inez Jackson; and a sister Brenda Jackson of Thomaston, Ga.
He is preceded in death by his father, James C. Jackson.
Eugene Hurst Jr., 76, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired United States Air Force staff sergeant and a veteran of the Korean War.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Ellingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Hurst of Dyersburg; two sons, Mike Hurst of Fort Myers, Fla. and Danny Hurst of Dyersburg; four grandchildren, Daniel Burns, Holly Lowery, Sarah Hurst and Danielle Hurst; and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Lowery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Hurst; and a grandson, Michael Hurst.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Jones, Keith Jones, David Lowery, Cliff Wilson, Barry Farley, Greg Canada and Ken Farley.
Maybell Simmons, 80, of Ridgely, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at her residence.
She was a homemaker and a member of Hawn Freeway Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Willie Hamblen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern.
The family will receive visitors at 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Jacobs and husband, Barry, of Dyersburg; a son, Rocky Simmons of Ridgely; three sisters, Laverne Hicks and Patty Staggs, both of Ridgely and Mamie Tubbs of Dyersburg; five brothers, Sonny Johnson, Donnie Johnson and Fred Johnson, all of Ridgely, Billy Johnson of Clifton and Carlton Johnson of Waverly; three grandchildren, Nick Jacobs, Adam Jacobs and Alan Jacobs; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler Jacobs, Brittany Jacobs, Austin Jacobs, Chloe Reasons and Ashton Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette L. Simmons; and her parents, Walker and Maddie Hearod Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Nick Jacobs, Adam Jacobs, Alan Jacobs, Carl Simmons, Johnny Hicks and Fred Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Jacobs, Austin Jacobs, Brittany Jacobs and Chloe Reasons.
