A Trimble firefighter readies to enter the attic of the house early this morning.
A fire gutted the interior of a Trimble house early today, making the 10th residential fire in Dyer County since Jan. 1, records show.

The house, at the southwest corner of Emily and Mitchell streets, was unoccupied at the time of the blaze, which was reported by neighbors at 1:30 a.m.

Trimble firefighters were assisted by the Newbern department to help extinguish the fire, which continued to smoke through the early morning hours.

Firefighters sawed into the roof to gain access to the open attic to attack the last remnants of flames.

The effort was hampered by subfreezing temperatures. Water from the fight quickly froze on the ground and nearby streets.

A cause of the fire has not been determined, said firefighters.
