Obama wins victory in one local precinct

Wednesday, February 6, 2008
Dyer County ballots for Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama split firmly down racial lines, an analysis of precinct numbers shows.

Obama supporters were outvoted by Clinton supporters in every one of the county's 17 precincts but one -- the largely black Dyer County Central precinct. There, Obama won a commanding 76.44 percent, or 133 votes, to Clinton's 21.84 percent, or 38 votes.

One-hundred and seventy-four Democratic ballots were voted in the precinct; only five people asked for a GOP ballot. On the Republic side, three votes were cast for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee; former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney received two votes.

Elsewhere in Tennessee, Obama won Tennessee's southwest corner - Shelby, Fayette, Hardeman, Haywood and Madison counties. Obama also won the populous Davidson and Wiliamson counties in Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga's Hamilton County in East Tennessee.

Don't give up on Dyersburg. There's no eutopia anywhere on earth. We've dissected our society into some many pieces: left/right, dem/repub, baptist/meth, etc. Surely we can agree on something such as the love of krispy kremes and the hatred of spam. Peace.

So what group is sticking together in the states that Obama won? Afterall states like Colorado and Conneticut are just full of "them". I have always been proud to say I am from Dyersburg. Comments like that make me glad I moved completely out of the state. No wonder most people view southerners as backwards inbreed hicks. Ignorance must be shear bliss Mike P...

"They stick together don't they" is an interesting comment - one that in certain circumstances could be taken as a compliment. We all should stick together. I would hope invading space aliens might look down at us earthlings and say, "They stick together, don't they?" Space aliens are prone to group all earthlings into one single "they" category whatever the race, gender, political affiliation or faith. In such a scenario it might be possible for us all to stick together and be united, however briefly, with the exception of Bush, of course.

You shouldn't vote by race. You should vote for who has the most experience, and who can do the best job. Race won't cut it. A woman can get things done and plus, Bill will be there to help. You can't beat that.
