Newbern firefighters work to extinguish a fire on Nora Drive in Newbern this morning.
A man was burned in a fire on Nora Drive this morning in Newbern.

According to reports from the Newbern Fire Department and Dyer County Sheriff's Department, the blaze was reported by a neighbor at 511 Nora Drive at about 7:05 a.m.

The cause of the fire was unknown, as firefighters were continuing to fight the flames as of press time.

The man, whose identity was not released, suffered burns to his hands. A Dyersburg Regional?Medical Center ambulance transported him for care for the injuries.

A metal roof prevented the fire from becoming exposed; blowing flames were pushed out from the ends of the roof and deformed the red paint with massive billows of smoke. Firefighters attacked the blaze from all sides of the 1,800-square-foot house.

The residence is owned by Joann Whitson Hart, county property records show.

The couple living in this house was not an elderly couple. Ask the Newbern police how many times they have been at this particular house. The girl living there has been convicted of drug possession.

Drugs can be found in any neighborhood. Just ask any law enforcement officer.

This was not a meth home. If any of the people responding to this story knew anything about Newbern, they would know that this is an "Up scale" neighborhood. Those that are talking about meth houses must be from Dyersburg. This was an accident, plain and simple. Besides, why would an elderly couple want to belittle themselves to make items that were proposed? Get real people! Just because it is a fire does not mean that it was meth related! I hope and pray that if your homes go up in flames that someone as ignorant as some of those that have commented, does not yell out "It's was a meth house!"

This house has definitely made the news before....as I recall...it was a daughter and her drug friends residing here. Does that have anything to do with the fire??????
