'Vette taken from local dealership found in Kentucky

Monday, March 10, 2008
A man reported missing from a Dyersburg group home was arrested in Kentucky on Sunday after allegedly stealing a car from a local auto dealership.

Troy "Tex" Griffin, 51, 1107 Hornbrook, is lodged in the Marshall County, Ky. detention center on a receiving stolen property charge after officers made a traffic stop on Sunday morning in Calvert City, Ky.

According to Dyer County Sheriff's and Dyersburg Police department reports, the Marshal County Sheriff's Department called at 6:07 a.m. to alert local authorities that Griffin had been stopped while driving a white Chevrolet Corvette. A purse was found in the passenger seat that belonged to a Newbern woman, the report said.

The Corvette had reportedly been taken from Rick Hill Nissan sometime Saturday, the report said. Griffin told authorities he was walking on Parr Avenue when he found the keys at a nearby construction site. Griffin said he checked the keys to find they opened a door at the dealership that fit the Corvette.

Employees on Sunday recovered the vehicle.

Griffin had been reported missing from Nehemiah Day Home. Earlier in the week he had been reported missing, but was found by police walking on St. John Avenue ramp to Highway 412.

Griffin is being held on a $3,500 cash bond. He is scheduled for a Kentucky court appearance at 9 a.m. April 16

A burglary warrant has been issued against Griffin pending his extradition.
