The series is a life-changing series of eight workshops on mental illness for family members and caregivers of people diagnosed with mental illness. The sessions will be presented free of charge by NAMI-Dyersburg as a community service at Dyersburg State Community College. The workshops will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesdays, April 8 through May 27.
The course provides information on bipolar, depression, anxieties, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective and substance abuse. Participants will learn medical information about symptoms; how to cope with the different phases of the illnesses; treatment information; tips for coping and self-care; problem management; and community services.
Family members or care givers of individuals with one of these diagnoses are encouraged to attend, however, the course is not appropriate for the individual who is suffering from the illness.
Those interested in registering or more information may contact Teresa Evans in the Division of Continuing Education at (731) 286-3267.
