Ernestine Artis, 80, of Kokomo, Ind., formerly of Dyersburg, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at Jefferson Manor.
She was previously employed by Delco Electronics and as an inspector for Turner-Powell Manufacturing, a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Dyersburg, a member of Wayman Chapel AME where she was a member of the Anna C. Clayborne Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Tri Eta Social Club.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Kokomo with Pastor Darrell K. Scott, Elder Robert Kirk, Sr. and Rev. Franklin E. Breckenridge Sr. officiating. Burial will in Crown Point Cemetery. Bluitt & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra M. Artis and Marella Williams and husband, Shedrick, all of Kokomo, a sister, Martha Rene Snowden of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren, Rakuya "Cookie" Artis of Auburn Hills, Mich. and D'Artagnan Artis Williams and wife, Alexandria, all of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Artis Sr.; a daughter, Maretta Artis; her parents, Henry and Nellie B. Johnson; and a sister, Catherine Ludene Byrd.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
James Rose III, 38, Lafayette, La., formerly of Dyersburg, died Saturday, March 15, 2008 in Lafayette.
He was an air refrigeration off-shore technician.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at 5:30-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his fiancÚ, Becky Biessenberger of Lafayette, La.; a daughter, Jessica Rose of Lafayette; a son, Michael Rose of Lafayette; his mother, Barbara Butler of Dyersburg; a sister, Jamilua Nelson and husband, Larry, of Dyersburg; a stepsister, Debbie McCampbell of Atchison, Ks.; a stepbrother, Cledus Butler of Piedmont, Mo.; his grandmother, Gladys Rose of Halls; uncles and aunts, Tommy and Dorothy Currin of Halls, Nick and Peggy Reeves and Charlotte Allen, all of Dyersburg, Walter Brashier of Memphis, Farren Rose, Bobbi Lu Wiley, and Margaret Ann Rose, all of Halls; and a niece, Brittany Butler of Dyersburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Rose; and his stepfather, Cledus Butler.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Hutcherson, Nick Reeves, Bill Harris, Kenneth Baucom, Rick Baggett and Chris Throgmorton.
