SkyWarn class at Rescue Squad headquarters on Thursday

A National Weather Service SkyWarn course is slated for Thursday at the Dyer County Rescue Squad headquarters in Newbern.

"We're as happy as we can be to have this come here," said squad chief Ricky Gatlin. "It's rare to be able to get an event like this."

The 90-minute SkyWarn class is taught by a National Weather Service meteorologist and offers instructions on how to identify imminent dangerous weather, including how to report wind gusts, hail size, rainfall and cloud formations that could signal a developing tornado.

The class begins at 6 p.m. at the DCRS building on Sharps Ferry Road in Newbern. Extra parking is available at the Newbern Masonic Lodge.
