"We're as happy as we can be to have this come here," said squad chief Ricky Gatlin. "It's rare to be able to get an event like this."
The 90-minute SkyWarn class is taught by a National Weather Service meteorologist and offers instructions on how to identify imminent dangerous weather, including how to report wind gusts, hail size, rainfall and cloud formations that could signal a developing tornado.
The class begins at 6 p.m. at the DCRS building on Sharps Ferry Road in Newbern. Extra parking is available at the Newbern Masonic Lodge.
