Members of First United Methodist churches in Dyersburg and Ripley will combine their choirs to present Blessed Assurance, a collection of well-known hymns of inspiration and hope. Two performances of the cantata will be held on Sunday, April 13. The first performance will take place at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg, with the second scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in the Ripley FUMC sanctuary. The combined choir of 55 to 60 vocalists and 25 orchestra members will present hymns, solos and narration to feature both the majesty of the music and the interesting and inspirational stories behind the songs. Hymns included are 'Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing', 'I Have Decided to Follow Jesus', 'I'd Rather Have Jesus', 'Leaning on the Everlasting Arms', 'Standing on the Promises', 'At Calvary', and many more. While the cantata celebrates the love and contentment of being a part of the family of God, the choir directors of each church also share a family connection: Dyersburg FUMC choir director Cooper Patterson and Ripley FUMC choir director Harley Patterson are brothers. From left, Cooper Patterson, Dyersburg FUMC minister Dr. Phillip Cook, Ripley FUMC minister the Rev. Randy Cooper and Harley Patterson.
