Three more people have filed qualifying petitions as candidates for the 77th House District, bringing the total of hopefuls to seven.
Democrats Larry Bennett of Obion filed his petition on Tuesday, as did Frankie Sharp of Ridgely. C.W. Sanderson of Kenton filed qualifying papers in Union City on Wednesday as Republican.
The deadline for qualifying is noon Thursday, April 17.
The three join Judy Barker of Union City, Jerry Grady of Hornbeak and Rosaire "Ross" Dubrule of Tiptonville on the Democratic ticket.
Shelly Arnett of Samburg is the other candidate in the Republican primary.
State Rep. Phillip Pinion withdrew from the race after 10 terms in the General Assembly on Aug. 9. The move re-open the qualifying period for another week.
The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 7.

I agree with you peoples advocate. Mr. Pinion will especially be missed on the transportation committee.
I have a gut feeling that alot of people will wish Phillip Pinion was back in office in a short time after the election.
It's going to be interesting this summer. Seven candiates so far then we may have some write-ins also.
My hat is off to Former State Rep. Phillip Pinion - glad to see him go. Maybe some new faces will be in Nashville this coming year that will have the interest of the people in District 77 at heart.

Dyersburg2008,
I don't suppose he will do a good job representing the residents of Lake County then.
But who cares anyway, right?
Thank you Larry Bennet. You have proven over the years how much you like to help people. I know you of all people would be a perfect candidate that would represent both Obion and Dyer county.Good Luck!
You have till 12 Noon Thursday to qualify. I'll vote for you.
I cannot see a candidate running from Dyer County because of the way the district is laid out. I have been told there are 19,000 voters in Obion County and 11,000 in Dyer County. I guess we will continue to be represented in State Government by "outsiders."
