![]() Dyersburg Police investigators comb the area on the lawn and parking area in the 1500 block of Maxey Drive near midnight on Thursday looking for physical evidence where a man was murdered in a drive-by shooting. Neighbors watch from an adjacent apartment. |
The man, whose identity had not been confirmed by police as of posting, was reported to have been killed by a drive-by shooting at about 10:53 p.m., said DPD spokesman Capt. Steve Isbell, from a 911 call made from a neighbor's residence.
Witnesses described the dead person as a young black man with a short fade haircut. He was wearing a black pullover sweater, black jeans and black shoes when he was shot near the parking lot curb in front of the 1500 block of Maxey Drive. Neighbors in the public housing units next to and adjacent to the site of the murder reported hearing a single gun shot before looking outside to see the man flat on his back.
Police arrived and immediately began to attempt to resuscitate the fallen man, who witnesses said was unconscious and taking shallow breaths. The man was transported by ambulance to Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, where he died.
Although the death is the first murder in the city in 2008, the killing occurred just over a year since the March 29 shooting death of Samuel Lynn Booker.
Booker, 24, was found dead at about 11:24 p.m. near the intersection of St. George and Hornbrook streets. The shooting death began a record year of homicides in the city.
Two weeks later, on April 8, John "Man Man" Yanders was shot dead off Parks Thurmon on the Dyersburg Housing Authority lawn.
No arrests have been made in the Booker or Yanders murders.
On Aug. 13, two people were found shot dead in their home at 1382 Upper Finley Rd. The murder scene is less than a block from the site of the Thursday night shooting.
Jeffery Scott "Snap" McMullin, 29, and his live-in girlfriend, Cristin Lynn Robinson, 22, were each found shot in the house. Aubrey Tremayne Eisom was arrested for the killings, but the was dropped in March by prosecutors.
Police are asking anyone with information on who the dead person may be, or who killed Booker and/or Yanders, are asked to contact the department at (731) 285-1212 or CrimeStoppers at (731) 285-TIPS.

ANOTHER BLOW TO DYERSBURG.....LOOKS LIKE TBI/FBI NEED TO COME BACK...AKA...1991
It does not matter what color a person is wrapped in, crime is crime. A person was killed.
No one deserves to die by the hand of another in any shape or form of sensless brutality.
Nothen Lights you mentioned that the police dept was Internationally Accredioted. If they
can't get their act together on a simple procudure like investigating a matter between
two on duty police officers all looking on were police officers how can they solve any
crime. The accredition people will probely
pull the certificate. But thats just what this illiterate chief wants. He doesn't have a clue what this means to the dept and city.
Mark my word he will try to say there is something just as good out there with less expense yea right. The school system, the hospital are both accredited maybe the chief
can find something cheaper for them also.LEADERRSHIP,LEADERSHIP,LEADERSHIP
The good men and women of the dept needs help
we should all speak out and get them some.
Whatever our race, we should be respectful of one another. Now all together let us sing:
Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow black and white
They are precious in His sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world

No...not everyone is racist. I didn't care for the word he used...negros. A lot of black people don't like that word. But why was the whole race thing brought up in the first place? There are white people killed everyday, and most serial killers are white men. What does being black have to do with anything? This is about someone losing their life over something senseless. It has nothing to do with the color of their skin. Don't try to make yourself feel better for being racist by saying everyone is racist. No they aren't. So I'm a wimp for standing up for something? Riiiight. Ok. Well, if calling me that makes you feel better...
Get a grip justme30, and stop being a wimp. Mr. Boatright is telling it like it is and you can't handle the truth. Anyone with a brain can see the facts, but some of our society love to hide behind excuses and blame others for problems that could be fixed with common sense. Black on black crime is not the fault of a white man who reports the statistics! Neither does that make him racist.
Whats wrong with being openly racist? Everyone is racist but says nothing. Is that better? Silent racism? Anyway, Bob Boatright hit the nail on the head. It isn't racist it is the truth. Don't hide behind calling him racist for him telling the truth. I hate evil, is that racist? The prisons are full of criminals and yes, most are Black. So is the judicial system racist? Statistics are truth. Go and Google it justme30.
Well, Mr. Bob Boatright....that did sound very racist...because it WAS.
I am truly and deeply sorry for his family and friends. I know that there has been entirely too many people killed out here in these streets over things that could of been resolved over just talking. Why must we have to pay and it's not like we're goin to wake up one day and there goin to be here again, there gone there always goin to be in our heart, but physically there are no longer here. Oh and for the everything being said about Cristin no she wasn't living in his house, though she was painting his house to make some extra money. They were ONLY Friends!!
violent crime does seem to be on the rise in dyer county
Please State Gazette let me correct you Cristin Roberson was not his girlfriend they were only friends, lets get that straight she was only a friend ,she had her own place and was not dating him !
We need to take a long hard look at what is happening in our community. Violence and robberies are on the rise, and someone needs to address this. We should have public meetings to discuss crime-watch, and clean up these neighborhoods. There is not one area in this town that has not been affected by crime and continues to increase. Crimes in rural areas are up as well. It is time to take a stand. My sympathy goes out to victim's family and friends.
that is sad but the way the world is you never know if you r gonna come back when you leave your house or not my heart and prayers r withthe family
has anyone heard who it was that was killed i dont live there anymore just moved....my prayers go out to the victims family and friends. im sorry for your loss.
thats real nice... it looks like kids live there.
