![]() Vincent McGraw of Chapmansboro, Tenn. is rescued from his car after it crashed into a Dyer County Schools bus at about 4:24 p.m. Monday. |
Vincent McGraw, 42, whose license had an address of 4425 Thomasville Rd., Chapmansboro, Tenn., but resides at 770 U.S. Highway 51 Bypass, No. 29, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier northbound on Unionville Road at about 4:24 p.m. when he crossed the centerline into the path of the bus, driven by Charles Carter Jr, 700 Key Corner Rd.
McGraw hit the bus almost head-on, damaging the bus in front of the driver's side.
The preliminary indication from the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigation showed McGraw's vehicle traveled more than 330 feet from the point of impact on Unionville Road before leaving the pavement and turning upside-down in the muddy ditch on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle may have flipped side-over-side or end-over-end as many as three times, said the preliminary distance information from the patrol. There were several deep cuts in the asphalt along the direction of travel noted by the long skid marks.
McGraw's vehicle struck the bus, then skidded down the driver's side of the bus and wrenched the rear outside tire out of place several inches.
Dyersburg Fire Department paramedics and EMTs used the jaws machine to break into the Cavalier and the front windshield was sawed away. Dyersburg Regional Medical Center ambulance personnel and Fowlkes and Unionville volunteer firefighters assisted the effort.
McGraw was taken by ambulance to DRMC, from where he was airlifted to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
McGraw, who was driving with a disabled license plate, was cited for driving while intoxicated, for moving into the other vehicle's lane, failure to have insurance and failure to wear a seat belt.
Dyer County Schools transportation officials and safety personnel were on the scene immediately to check the impact of the accident on the bus. The vehicle was taken out of service for repairs.

I would like to say First things first. I did have insurance on my car. I did have a few beers but It has not been released on my blood acohol level so who knows for sure I was drunk smell means nothing. I am happy no one was hurt but me. My back was broken in 3 places and I had to have 2 rods placed in my back. I am the one who will live with my back messed and in up and in pain for the rest of my life. So for all who hate me I am sorry. I pray for the people who judge me. I am the one who will pay for my misstake. People need to get there fact together before writing word.
Thank goodness no one but the driver was injured. There are not many folks who drink that haven't driven when they've had one too many. Before we judge maybe we should think about our own lives and say a prayer.
Madmama has issues maybe you need angermanagement smile sometimes your so negative maybe you need a hug!!!!
I saw and talked to the bus driver today. He wasn't injured at all.
What difference does it make where Chapmansboro is located? McGraw should be thrown in jail if he survives!
What if there had been children on that bus...."If" he lives, I hope they put him so far under the jail that he never get's out! And I hope Mr. Charles is doing OK.
