A Fowlkes Volunteer Fire Department firefighter talks with homeowner Viola Compton and Compton's relatives and friends at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday as volunteers from Fowlkes, Bonicord and Bruceville try to manage the blaze at her 1420 Key Corner Rd. address. Compton was frantic to find four dogs and a cat who lived with her. The animals were accounted for. She was not at home at the time of the fire, but at a neighbor's residence. The almost 1,500-square-foot house was reported on fire by a passerby at 9:34 p.m. The house was built in 1965, and the Comptons had lived there since 1991.
