The Dyersburg Trojan soccer team wrapped up their regular season schedule with a district match-up against Trenton Thursday on senior night in Dyersburg.

The Trojans finished the regular season with a 12-2 record after beating Trenton on Thursday 3-1, completing the undefeated sweep of their district opponents with a 6-0 record on the year.

"Being number one in the district is a great accomplishment and something we are very proud of," said head coach Lance Roy.

The offensively aggressive Trojans came out firing Thursday night, with James Northcutt scoring the matches first goal at the 32 minute mark in the first half off a rebound opportunity. Dyersburg controlled the field position early in the first half, and wouldn't allow Trenton to get in any position to get a legitimate shot on goal early on. The Trojan offense went back to work in the 27th minute mark of the first half with another rebound put in, this time by Andrew Lane to make the score 2-0 still early in the first half. For the rest of the half the two teams battled for field position, with Dyersburg still controlling the tempo of the match.

"I told my players that Trenton was aggressive so we needed to pass the ball before they got too close to us," said Roy.

The Trojan offense struck again with under two minutes left in the half with a goal by Connor Hansford, giving Dyersburg a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, coach Roy decided to substitute younger players to get some game experience and to allow his starters to rest for next weeks district tournament.

The Trojans continued to control the clock and the ball late in the second half until Trenton finally scored in the 14th minute mark in the second to make the score 3-1. Trenton had more attempts at a goal in the second half but Trojan goalie William Lay recorded six saves for the home team, sealing the victory for Dyersburg.
