Brothers arrested dismantling air conditioner

Two brothers were arrested around midnight Tuesday for vandalism after they were caught dismantling an air conditioning unit, reportedly to get the copper tubing inside.

Kevin Anthony Morgan, 26, and Kenneth Wayne Morgan, 28, both of 112 Susan Dr., Friendship, were arrested at 11:52 p.m. at their residence after a witness reported to the Dyer County Sheriff's Department the pair had been seen stealing wire from the air conditioning unit of an empty house south of Bonicord.

The witness interrupted the brothers' work and the two left the scene, the report said, one running and the the other walking.

The event follows a reported copper theft in the 3400 block of Ashley Road that occurred on Monday. According to the report, the copper wiring was stolen from the air conditioning unit of an empty house.

Copper thefts continue to plague the county, with more than 20 reported cases in the last six months, including the metal in irrigation pipes, several air conditioners and water tanks.

Let's not "make a deal" with these two punks. Start letting them attempt to steal a plate lunch from June Bug at the jail. They'll be holding his belt loop by noon.

Maybe they were assembling the air conditioner. Or, maybe they noticed the copper tubing was trying to escape and were putting it back. Nah.

The next headline, after all of these bad guys are put in jail, might read something like "County needs more money for criminal justice. Tax increase proposed." Are you ready for that?
