Hidden Garden Tour to benefit Humane Society

Friday, May 9, 2008
An afternoon discovering the beautiful gardens nestled in backyards throughout Dyersburg is not only a chance for local residents to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon, but a way to enrich the lives of forgotten pets in the area.

The Humane Society's second annual Hidden Garden Tour will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Sunday, May 18, with a rain date set for May 25. Advanced tickets are available for $10, with tour site tickets costing $12.

Advanced tickets are available at Cole Chiropractic Clinic, The Pet Stop, The Humane Society and all First Citizens National Bank locations in Dyer County. Proceeds will benefit the Dyersburg/Dyer County Humane Society and be used to support the Betty S. Parker/Tommy H. Lipford Animal Shelter of Dyersburg.

"There will be five homes on the tour featuring a variety of garden styles for everyone to enjoy," said Humane Society Vice President Phil Lipford. "Last year we had over 200 guests and the tour received rave reviews. We hope this year's will be even better. Hopefully, you will leave with ideas to use in your own backyards."

Sun gardens, shade gardens, water gardens, strolling gardens, vegetable gardens and cutting gardens will offer a wide range of styles and landscapes for nature-lovers to enjoy.

Gardens featured on the tour include the backyard havens of:

- Richard and Diane Donner of 765 Clanton Rd,

- Dr. Daniel and Beverly Green of 801 Acadian Blvd.

- Waymon and Betty Hogue of 815 Moody Dr.,

- Lee and Teresa Robitaille of 920 Dean Dr.

- and Byron and Angela Smith of 2217 Fairway Dr.
