Teacher charged in student sex case

Friday, May 9, 2008
A teacher accused of having sexual relations with a student has been charged with contributing to the unruly behavior of minor.

Hinson
Tracy Hinson, 38, of Newbern, is scheduled to appear in Lake County Juvenile Court on Wednesday, May 14.

She was charged Thursday, May 8, by Lake County Sheriff's Investigator Joe Vernon. Vernon declined to elaborate on the charge, saying that the case is still under investigation.

Hinson, a science teacher at Lake County High School, was confronted Thursday afternoon with allegations that she'd been sexually involved with a teen-aged male student at the high school. She was suspended without pay.

what???okay how do you get from being accused of having sexual relations with a student to contributing to the unruly behavior of a minor????

-- Posted by tnmama on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 3:34 PM

ok when is she or the minor gonna spill there guts about the others involved?

-- Posted by baby boomer on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 3:44 PM

Wasn't there a teacher at dyersburg that resigned over the same kind of thing? or was that just text msging? i can't remember. either way, someone kept it quiet because i only remember one article on that, and i've heard nothing more about it since. what's the story on that??

-- Posted by justme30 on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 4:22 PM

contributing is probably just the tip of the iceberg. This has been goin on for years and its high time that it got stopped. lake co. schools need to be investigated too to uncover all the stuff that they have covered up over the years. including the teacher earlier this year that got caught by a student while watching porn on a school computer. lets investigate the SCHOOL SYSTEM and see where that leads. look at the teachers, administrators, and how the classes are handled. lets fix it.

This is very sad and shocking i went to school with this girl. She was a cheerleader and very bright but i guess the older you get the more bad choices you make and now she wont be able to have any relations with her kids that she have and they are teens. She is in wal-mart all the time with them and now she wont be able to have any relations with them and her daughters are at the age where they will need their mom so sad but if you do wrong you need to pay for your actions all this in the news about teachers and students why would you even risk the chance of losing all those years of college and all that time and money spent to get a degree in education ,to lose it over a child that you have no buisness messing with. I just hate this for her husband cause it tells that he wasnt performing at home like he should have cause if he was we wouldnt be reading about this, so all you men that wife is a high school teacher and she looks good be on the look out cause these teenage boys thats coming up is nothing like we were when we was coming up boy t.v. teaches alot now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is what we have to worry about,if it aint guns, and drugsnow its molesting our kids

it is awful

-- Posted by blabbermouth on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 5:08 PM

They recently sent letters home asking if the parents would like to have a dress code at school. Looks like we need some kind of code for the teachers to follow. This really sets a good example for the kids to follow.

I can't attest to the guilt or innocence of Mrs. Hinson but I can sure voice my disapproval of the airing other people's misfortune by the media. Evidently someone in Lake county wanted to get Tiptonville on the map for a day and decided to leak this to the press and push some buttons out there in the home of the free and the land of the judgemental.

The only mug shots I'd like to see on the front page of the local rag are those of people who have done malicious harm to others. Unfortunately, we are treated to the West Tennessee version of Peyton Place by over-eager reporters.

Get a life, ya'll.

-- Posted by poopie on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 6:14 PM

This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. They have documented over 200 of these types of incidents since just the beginning of 2008.

-- Posted by triumph110 on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 6:59 PM

hey poopie...it's extremely sad to know that you think a grown woman, a school teacher, having a relationship sexual in nature with a student is not malicious or harmful! you must not have any children of your own because parents are outraged. Do you also feel that it is acceptable that we are paying her salary to seduce our children? The media is not airing someone's misfortune! They are informing the community of a school teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage student!!! There is no misfortune on Mrs. Hinsons's part, she brought this upon herself. She has caused her husband and more importantly her children an awful humiliation that they DO NOT deserve. Sadly, her husband doesnt have a clue what she has been doing for YEARS!!! Futhermore, if this wasnt broadcasted in the media and your teenage son became involved with this teacher, i'm sure you would want to pursue a lawsuit for not being informed of her sexual escapades!! What would your feelings and opinions be if this were a male teacher and female student?? This is appauling and she deserves whatever punishment is given to her, and probably more knowing our judicial system! All of this being said, i would be willing to bet my paycheck that there will be alot more come out after subpeona's and warrants are issued...it's gonna snowball and just wait to see what phone records will reveal!!!

-- Posted by TNGAL on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 7:05 PM

She's just now getting caught? This has been going on since she started teaching. A new student, or coach, or teacher, or sometimes the father of a student every year! And what about some of the other teachers/school employees doing the same thing?

-- Posted by Here'sMy2cents on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 7:17 PM

tngal, you hit the nail on the head. teachers are paid to educate our children. but this woman was teachin the wrong type of chemistry. lets get some more out into the open, shall we? last year a teacher's aide was fired for stealing money from the school, but not procecuted. another young teacher was dismissed and escorted off the property for some sexually charged things that were sent to a student. this is assonine. i would love to see an investigation done on each school in lake county and on the administrators. i mean, honestly. this kind of stuff has been going on for a while now, and the Lake Co. Board of Education's administrators have been covering it up to keep the schools in a positive light. they say that they are trying to do what is best for the children. BUNK!!! they are just wanting to what is best for the school's image. its time for the truth to come out!!!

-- Posted by recalcitrant on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 7:36 PM

Was "Make-A-Deal" involved in these charges being placed? Anyone know? Bet she doesn't get another minute's time in jail. My prediction is a plea arrangement, shocker right?, that will be no additional jail time other than time served and a small fine with a short probation. She's guilty and has been since about '93 with multiple students. 'Bout time. I hear some other teachers in LC are getting awfully nervous.

-- Posted by youknowimright on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 7:40 PM

If it's dealt with in Lake County, she'll just get a slap on the wrist. I mean, where else can a member of the fire department commit arson and remain on the job. So why can't a teacher who has sex with a student continue to teach??? Get a grip Lake County and come to the new millineum.

-- Posted by My2Centz on Fri, May 9, 2008, at 10:25 PM

it is so sad to send your kids to school to be educated by people you thought you could trust and then something like this happens. From all the rumors going around there are five other teachers being investigated. I am sure that Mr. Bivens had better do something this time or there will be bus loads of parents knocking on his door wanting to know why nothing is done. AS for the school board, well Mr. Hassell is in the running for the position of Superintendent in Lauderdale County. I am sure he didnt want this to get out, looks like he will be staying here for a while because I am sure the people of Lauderdale county would not want a man over their school system that has covered this up for years. But then again the good people of Lake County might be ready to get rid of him too.

-- Posted by tngranny on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 1:55 AM

Believe me, this happens all the time. I know a guy, who was married, had two kids, at the same time he was messing with a 15 year old, and he was over 30!! His wife did not want her kids to live with that kind of scandel, that is why he is free as a bird to this day!!!!He treated her like dirt too.

If he only knew what she saved him from!!

People can't trust ANYONE these days.

After grduating from UTM in the summer of 2005, I taught Biology at LCHS for less than the first nine weeks before being asked to resign by Lake County Schools Superintendent Joey Hassell so a retired English teacher could have the job and the teacher of his choise could finally pass the PRAXIS exam. My Tennessee Education Association represenative advised me to not resign and have Mr. Hasslle to fire me then take them to court for breach of contract to get my job back. I hadn't done anything wrong and was sure I'd get my position back. When the hearing was held Mrs. Hinson's testimony was only complete falsities enabling Mr. Hasslle to accomplish his goals. None of these awful events that seem to have transpired of late suprise me and I feel like we'll never know the whole extent of abuse suffered by Lake County students.

-- Posted by jastmoor on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 4:04 AM

As a mom of a lake county school student this story really makes me sick! It is a shame in a day and time when we send our children to school we have to worry about perverted teachers praying on them. I know miss tracy, and i know her well she was my chemistry teacher in high school. I just don't understand how you can have a teacher in a school system for 15 years and think that this outrageous behavior just started two-weeks ago, NO! it was going out way back then. We have many good teachers in this system, one in particular, our middle school band teacher mr. andrew macintosh. Guess What? he was not rehired by our local school board for next year. Every student can't be a football, basketball, or baseball star. Some including my son finds comfort in music and the band, but now it is probably gone. But we have other teachers, not only ms. tracy but others, some male teachers as well praying on our children. It's awfully ironic that superintendent joey hassell is "uncovering" all these misconducts two weeks before school is out, and just as he's set to go to Lauderdale Co. GOOD RIDDANCE! We need to hire a competent leader not someone from lake co. not a "good-ole boy", or girl for that matter from the outside. Another point, why is the mother of this juvenile so hard on miss tracy when this "child" is basically living with a 27 year old woman employed at the primary care clinic here. And many nights they stay together at the so-called mothers home. But, as they say, the apple doesn't fall to far from the proverbial tree. The mother isn't a saint by any stretch of the imagination. We often complain about the:school board, city boards, and county commissions, but we never give new ideas a chance in this county. we keep electing the same people over and over and yet we expect to get different results. it ain't gonna happen. It's springtime and i'm hopeful that the spring cleaning is just starting, there's some crooked so-called county-leaders and commissioners that need to be exposed as well, not relating to this present issue. It's about time these crooks in this county get caught. There's one thing for sure we can hide from man, but we can't hide from God! what's done in the dark will surely come to light. Maybe in the next few weeks or months the local law enforcement officers will be able to utilize their handcuffs many more times! This county needs a serious moral and ethical shaking, and the tremors are already being felt!

I live close to the teacher. Have any of you provided proof before? Evidentally they finally got some proof on her instead of rumors. Proof is everything. I don't know the 17 year old student. I will say that Tracy was supposed to be the professional and should of never got involved with a student at any age. I'm amazed that some of you say you have known for 15 years but remained silent. Don't you feel like a child molestor as well since you covered it up but claim you know. Maybe some of you need to be delt with. She will probably not serve any time since she is a female. The teacher from from Memphis is still in jail for touching a student but Tracy is out. Go figure! Only the judge & DA can punisher her for her crime not the school. I

-- Posted by trojan2 on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 6:57 AM

She should get same punishment as if she was a man and a female student but she wont. When it all comes out all adults the student slept with should be named and charged also for statutory rape. All adults involved with student should be worried and ashamed espically if their children are older than student. It is sorry that nothing will be done but beleive me if it was a man he would be charged with rape

LC parents... I would be very concerned .. yes, as stated before, you can look up a lot of the same incidents in school systems throughout the USA. Being from Dyersburg and going to DHS and graduating in 1978, I try to keep up with events from my home town from a distance ... yes , I said a distance. Tell your neighbor, people in the Houston, Texas area know of this "hanky-panky" already. I'll agree, it's a big embarrassement. My heart goes out to her kids who'll have to live through this and the ridicule from their peers.

-- Posted by fish_man on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 8:34 AM

first...where are the comments i posted last night along with comments from "lakecountygirl"?? we must have hit a nerve and someone had them removed! ha

secondly...you people that feel tracy is somehow less guilty because of the lifestyle the boy lives, well you absolutely are ridiculous. I guess if i murder my next door neighbor i should be less guilty because he was a drug dealer???

LCFALCON85 - this is directed to you. you said, and i quote "she is a great teacher of her field She tries to keep the subject matter interesting with labs and so forth to help the students instead of just reading from a text book." SHE IS HAVING SEX WITH STUDENTS!!! so yea in a way i guess you are correct, she sure is keeping the subject matter interesting!

Step back, take the personal element out of the topic, would you feel the same way if you didn't know this woman or the victim? would it still be tolerated a little more by some of ya'll on here? at the end of the day, SHE IS GUILTY AND SHOULD BE PUNISHED!

-- Posted by TNGAL on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 9:18 AM

Last night rumors were flying all over Lake County about other adults being questioned about their relationships with this "child". Does anyone know any facts about this?

-- Posted by Ignoranceisbliss on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 9:22 AM

Our society is sick because people think they can do whatever they want whenever they choose with no fear of consequences. The justice system isn't concerned about justice; law enforcement officers are often our worst offenders; laws are ignored by the people who write and enforce them; and criminals are not punished for their crimes. The "system" is broken and the majority of our "citizens" could care less...Let the good times roll: Sex ed for children; sex intro by teachers and administrators; sex extortion by police and judges; and sex perversion in the White House. Our society sickens me. We have done better. We can do better. We must do better.

-- Posted by A Citizen on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 9:30 AM

Holy gracious.. I don't blame the boy for not telling about her. That's a 3 am bar closing and I had way too much to drink woman.

The boy is 17. I'm sure he didn't just turn 17. The boy is old enough to know better just like the woman is. I mean the boy in less than a year is old enough by society morals to travel across the ocean to fight and possibly die in a war that keeps you with high oil prices. If he isn't old enough at 17 to know better and take some blame then there are alot of young boys fighting our wars, while we sit at home and watch tv forgetting that this war is going on, that need to come home and let the mature men go fight. Hmmmmm..

-- Posted by taylormade on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 10:27 AM

if the 17 yr old killed someone he would be charged as an adult why can't he have sexual relations like an adult

-- Posted by owlhoot1 on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 12:54 PM

while the boy may be guilty, the law says that he has not reached the age of consent, therefore can't say that he wants to have sex. this makes him a victim. do i agree with this? no. does this make it right? no. but i digress... as for the law enforcement, they are doing their jobs. most of them anyway. they can't do anything without proof. again, that is most of them. if they do then they will get sued and look like morons and lose their credibility. and again, that is most of them. there is one who can do what ever he wants and get away with it. aint that right? i digress...there is a saying among law enforcement. "it's not what you know, it's what you can prove." Tracy has been suspected of this for 15 years. including when i was a student there. but suspecting is not being able to prove. and there has always been a lack of proof. think like a teenage boy, folks. if you were a teenage boy and you were cracking the best lookin teacher up there, would you risk messing that up? they can say you were doing whatever with the teacher, but without the proof, then its just talk. but apparently there is proof now. as for the DA, i hear that there is going to be an outside prosecutor brought in because there is a conflict of interest for phil. if that is the case, somebody should get whats coming to them. maybe there will be no deals, diversions, or probation. they should investigate the boy, his mother, any women over the age that would constitute statutory rape (4 years) that he has been with, the other teachers, and anybody else that is involved with this type of behavior. i still say that they need to INVESTIGATE THE LAKE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM AND UNCOVER ALL THE COVER UPS. MAKE IT PUBLIC. after all, if you have a cancer, you need to cut it ALL out to get it all and get healthy again, but it seems that the school officials don't see that.

-- Posted by recalcitrant on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 1:37 PM

Hey my2centz you need to get your facts straight there is no one that committed or was accused of arson still with the department I don't understand why you are bringing up the fire department when this subject is about a teacher and student having sex there was a fire there but they didn't need a fire department to put the flames out so get your facts straight before you give your opinion

Who is anybody kidding, this is Lake County. The most corrupt county, I'm sure, in Northwest Tennessee. The law only applies to those in this county who don't have the right connections! This is the county that the last great sheriff and some of his deputies had their own drug ring and were selling dope straight out of the cop cars. Wether the apples doesn't fall far from the tree or not is beside the point. People are wanting to blame him for whatever reason or another, but she should have quit while she was still ahead. Everyone knows that he is certainly not the first and if this hadn't of been brought to the forefront he certainly wouldn't have been the last. She was the one that was entrusted by the school system and the people of this county with their children. Ultimately, she was the adult and should have know better. Whether or not he has a drug problem is beside the point because I'm sure that all of the ones that came before him didn't have drug problems and it still happened. This is obviously a woman who gets off on sleeping with young men who has no regard for her own family. I've seen on here where some other people, i.e. formerfalcon, put something about her son looking like a certain coach. Why put that in your blog? Who are you ultimately hurting by doing that? Not Tracy Hinson, but instead her son. Why would anyone want to put something on here where anyone, including him, can read it and ultimately he is the only one that will be hurt by that. Don't you think he might already be devestated by his mother's actions without someone like you throwing more fuel on the fire for him? Her family is one of the TRUE victims in this and doesn't deserve any of the mud slinging to be thrown in their direction! The people who should really be sweating are all the other adult women who have done the same thing with this student, and yes, their are other school employees who are guilty of the same thing with the same student a few years ago.

-- Posted by tngirl on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 2:35 PM

I am very very upset that my comment was deleted when I said nothing more than the facts, and I was very polite in the matter too both sides but evidently someone took something i said to heart! so I shall REPOST!!!

Tracy Hinson is Guilty!!!!!! She had sex with a minor!!!! There is proof!! Lots of proof!

Regardless if the boy is 15 or 17 and 1/2 he is still a minor! Heck I know 19 yr olds who are still children!

Get over it! You people are just too touchy because you know the people!

She did it and thats all there is to it!

-- Posted by mommie2b on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 3:21 PM

ONCE AGAIN! Here is my previous post!

As a former student of LCHS and of Mrs Hinson, during my high school career - the rumors were accumulated and indeed in well circulation as to who she had preyed on before and who she would be praying on during their "senior year." I thought Mrs Hinson was a great teacher and a wonderful person. But her character traits does not justify or validate that sleeping with students is at all correct. She sexually preyed on a minor and that is against the law.

And while I too know the boy and his mother, and some have said "the apple didn't fall too far from the tree," and whether that is true or not, has nothing to do with this. The lifestyles of the son and mother does not excuse the fact that the boy was taken advantage of by a teacher, someone who is supposed to have a code of ethics and morals. The boy's relationship with his "25 yr old girlfriend" has nothing to do with this matter either. Although his mother did know of that particular relation and gave her consent to it, the boy did not live with her. All adult women who have been rumored to allegedly had sexual relations with the minor will be investigated. So watch out ladies, because there is plenty of you out there! Regardless of who you are, if you are a teacher or any other adult for that fact, it is legally wrong to have sex with a minor whether he/she consents to the sexual act or not. Yes, the boy was expelled from school for a calender year for drug use, but to those who don't know, Mrs Hinson, you know the one that was sleeping with the student, had him expelled also. Hmmmm... So, regardless as to who you are or how you feel on this particualar matter - Mrs Hinson is guilty! So - for those who dont know whats going on - don't be so quick to put you foot in your mouth!

-- Posted by mommie2b on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 3:48 PM

Mrs. Tracy is the greatest teacher I have ever had. I'm a student at Lake County High School and I firmly believe that all of you are wrong. She is very involved and makes her class work so simple for everyone. She is a wonderful mother and wife, and the best coach our school has ever seen. What ever happened to being innocent until proven guilty? They were text messages, not sex. You act like she is some kind of sexual predator. Do any of you even know the guy? He's in my class and a complete jerk. None of you have any facts so you all should keep your ignorant opinons to yourselves. Espeically whoever made the comment about the "spice girl."

-- Posted by LCHSgirl on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 3:48 PM

LCHS girl - yes they were only text messages, 4,500 of them. Exactly what do you think they were discussing, school work?? Your obviously a child with no child of your own. Parents send their children to school to learn, not be taken advantage of. No matter if he is a jerk or not, she is still the adult and should have know better. Also, are you forgetting she has been charged with contributing to the deliquency of a minor, yeah that's a good teacher and mother who gives her students alcohol. I'm sure that this is only the initial charge and only the beginning of many more charges to come. Also, the "spice" girl, needs to act like a teacher, not a student with her little "clicks". I mean, letting students come to your house, drink alcohol and encouraging them to have sex with boys is not the kind of teaching she needs to be doing. Whether people know them or not is beside the point, the fact is they are unfit to teach and give all teachers a bad rep. Maybe you are the one that should step back from the situation and try to see it from a parents point of view. Parents should be at ease when sending their children to school, not worring if they are going to be the next victim of a sexual predator.

-- Posted by tngirl on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 4:43 PM

To Tngal... You know so much where is your proof??? You are talking about another teacher and giving her name. SO what is your name??? You are hiding behind the TNGAL. I bet you don't have the proof on the teacher or even know of where the proof is. You are the kind of dumbass that keeps stupid things going on.

So be a big person like you act like and tell us your proof and your name. I mean you have no problem giving out everyone elses name.

You know slander is when you give another person's name in a sentence that is degrading to their name. Slander makes a good law suit too. SO who are you BIG TNGAL..

hahahahaha... A coward no doubt

-- Posted by taylormade on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 4:53 PM

So many of you all keep posting that you knew this was going on and it had been goiing on for a long time and even years before. But yet you let it continue while you didn't say anything?? I mean if you were spreading it then you must have proof that it was going on and with this proof you can go to the PD or papers and get something done about it?? So did any of you go?? Was it not happening to your child and so you let it continue?? There are a lot of followers in lake co and very few leaders.

So either you who knew this was happening are either cowards for not saying a damn thing long ago or you are a liar because you actually are just going by rumors. Either way, you are still a loser for being a liar or coward.

Where is the proof? ??

Oh wait, taylormade, I know what it is, you must be a sexual predator too and just want to take up for your kind, yeah that must be it. Yeah, the boy is old enough to know what he was doing, but, he isn't the one entrusted by the school system or parents of the county with their children. Where their is smoke there is fire and whether rumor or not there is some truth in every blog on this page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, obviously not you because you are obviously attracted to young children and have no morals or values as a person, what kind of person would type what you just typed besides an ignorant, redneck, who doesn't know how to read or write well obviously by your blogs.

-- Posted by tngirl on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 5:43 PM

People Please,

There is absoutly no need to sit there and and attack the students or use their names. Anyone who knows this teacher knows the children. Leave the children alone!!!!! They are going through a difficult enough time they need support and understanding they are not the ones who are in the wrong. LEAVE them alone. Have some compassion. I am not taking any sides on this only the point of view of 2 children who have been devestated enough without the public inflicting more pain.

Yes I am a mother and both my children have this teacher and NO neither are a cheerleader or on the dance team. But all the students have been affected by this. This was a teacher who everyone looked up to. Now they are crushed by what has been done. They are the ones who are affected by this. The public needs to be more supportive and understanding of the students and how this has affected them.

To the children of the teacher: You are both in my prayers, my heart goes out to you.

Since your from Dyersburg this doesn't even concern you, nor should you even have an opinion. Do you know any of the people involved? Maybe you should stick to your own county and ya'lls problems.

Hmmm... If I'm replying then I must be able to read so that is one lie from you.

Date anyone you want..hahahah. I can see you were teased a lot in school. It has left a scar hasn't it? Try therapy or you can save money by just buying a bullet. I will let you borrow my gun.

Yeah they are but it's between us so butt out. Anyway it is funny. Also helps to push these lies about other teachers out and to the bottom.

lets not hammer the police in lake county. i admit that there are a few who are not fit to wear the badge. they know who they are. but as far as scared goes. there's a difference between scared and stupid. but that makes no difference here. the topic is that this teacher has committed a crime and should be punished for it. so should anybody else invlolved who has worked to cover it up.

-- Posted by recalcitrant on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 6:11 PM

Tracy is guilty. The proof is there and will come out unless she resigns her postion. If she resigns then the school will be done with it. If not the school will have to unload all the evidence they have on her. I bet she resigns. SHE WILL NOT GO TO JAIL because the DA will not do his job and prosecute her. If he does he will let her make a deal for a lesser charge. No felony and no sex offender. If a man he would be locked up. I bet Nancy Grace could get the DA to do his job. If anyone has proof on any other teacher give it up and lets see atleast one TN high school cleaned up. Most of them are dirty to an extent. The student did not break the law but the teacher did. She knew better. Come on teacher, come clean or tell on the others and don't go down alone. By the way text messages between a student and teacher is against school policy especialy when over 4,000 Do something for your own kids and Fess Up Freak!!!

I am a mother in Lake County and I would like to start off by saying we have MANY great teachers here and a Wonderful schoolboard and administrative staff. I am very saddened by the allegations towards Mrs. Hinson, but there must be proof or it wouldn't have made it this far. Regardless of the "childs" age or behaviors, he is still an underage STUDENT of LCHS. She had the responsibility to be a TEACHER not a "playmate". I feel VERY sorry for her husband and three children. Her daughter has received a great honor at our school and I hope that she and her brothers are treated with the respect they deserve!!!!

My comment is mainly directed to tnsexiimamii2008. Your screen name speaks for itself. Where did you recieve those wonderful grammar and typing skills? I have no idea what you even said. Do you actually think anyone would believe you when you stated that you have called 911 and an officer did not respond. Get real. Are you directing your comments toward the Sheriff's Office or the local Police Departments? Do you even know the difference? Usually when someone bad mouths the law enforcement it is because they are on the wrong side of the law. Chief Rhodes and Chief Floyd do a good job with what they have. Sheriff Tippit has a very good department and the community should be proud him. Sheriff Tippit works night and day for this county. Anyone with sense that reads your comments know they are filled with lies. As for the MUREDER on Bishop Street the police were never called prior to the incident. Anyone with a scanner on that day could tell you that. Officer Perkins was there within minutes of the call when it was made. I Find it hard to believe that an officer would make those type of comments to you. You must be refering to the former Sheriff when you speak of harboring drugs and sleeping with crackheads. Sheriff Tippit has been busting the big drug dealers. You never see the postive news in LC on the front page. It is always negative. Sheriff Tippit's deputies are not in the federal pen for selling drugs out of a patrol car. You should be gratful that you have a good Sheriff and local police officers. If you don't like LC you should try Dyersburg PD. That is a mess there. Be gratful!!

Your problems with the LC law enforcement has nothing to do with this article. Sheriff Tippit and his harworking staff will investiagte this case until all the facts are opened up. I was told by a board member that the Sheriff was not notified of the interal investigation the Resource Officer and the School Board was conducting until 30 minutes before the warrant was served. The Sheriff will get this case straight and handled properly. I bet "make a deal Phil" slaps her on the wrist like he does everyone else after the polce work thier butts off making a case. It seems Phil is on the wrong side. Tracy has brought shame to herself, the community, her family, and the school. She will realize this while sitting in a cold prison cell, maybe????????????????????????

Common on now. Her daughter is a very sweet young lady but she is also a victim by her current boyfriend. He is 21 and she 17. Her mother is not setting a good example. I feel for both families involved but when u do wrong, u get done wrong. Regardless of the comments made on this site, ppl r going to say what they want to. What happened to Freedom of Speech?

-- Posted by certified on Sat, May 10, 2008, at 7:42 PM

Phil Bivins knows he don't need the little lake county vote to stay in office. he has enough good ole, boys dyer co votes to do that. Should be a defense attorney

Three points of view here:

#1. While Tracy has committed a crime, she must pay for her actions. However, it is no one else's job to judge her as we all have made "very bad judgments", so of us have yet to be caught. She is not the first at LCHS as there was an issue in 1986/1987 with two male coaches and yes that brought so much shame on the families and they did pay one way or another.

#2. This "kid" that we are calling 'him' should be held responsible for his actions as well as it seems that he only "told on her" because she could not get him back into school after he was kicked out for doing drugs.

#3. Yes, some of the people of Lake County are "dirty" and always have been, but not all are. Depending on who you are, who your granddaddy is/was, your social status and race, will determine what happens to you.

I know we all want to be heard, but we should all keep the family lifted up and yes this is devastating.

certified:

Freedom of Speech (under the First Amendment) is defined as "freedom of expression, both oral and written, from governmental prior restraint, except as such expression constitutes libel, slander, obscenity, sedition, or criminal conduct such as bribery, perjury, or incitement to riot."

At this point it is "slander" and unless you have facts, you need to be careful of what you are writing.

yeah she needed to be a teacher, not!!!Whats wrong these adults these days fooling around with kids?

Someone seemed to have had a problem with my last comment. I'm not sure why since there are more offending statements than mine. However, mine was the one to get deleted. I just simply said that I feel sorry for her family. This is not exactly the ideal Mother's Day celebration. I also commented on her looks. It is totally my opinion, but what did that boy see in her? Maybe if she doesn't go back to jail she will find time to get a decent hairstyle. Her look is rather out of date. Again, this is just my opinion and a kind suggestion. Hope this doesn't offend many of you.

Hang in there kiddo... I don't know you, but I do know this is a hard time for you. I see Mrs. Tracy as you see her so I understand how upsetting this all is for you. I hope your graduation goes great! Hang on to her daughter- I won't say her name even though others have. I've known her since she was a little girl and can't believe she's graduating! God's Word says that all things hidden in the darkness will be brought to the light so that's what I'm praying over this situation.

-- Posted by LC_graduate on Sun, May 11, 2008, at 9:24 AM

peoples advocate, you must be jealous of the spice girl. You sure do bring it up alot. What about the spice girl? Where's the proof, that she was having sexual relations with the male students? Just because she is a lovely woman and a great teacher, doesn't mean she is sexualy involved with the male students. Did she get caught in school with a student? I know she didn't, so keep your comments to yourself. That is slander. You are just jealous and insecure of yourself. This is about Tracy and no other teacher. Keep your comments confined to the above article.

angel fire has a point. in fact i can remember when the school system started talking about zero-tolerance for drug use, way back in the late 1990's. several students got caught in the parking lot with some dope, got expelled, then suspended, then put into in school suspension. before too long they were right back in class with the rest of us. seems to me that there used to be some kind of hearing that the parents could go to to appeal stuff like that... but again, i digress... also there is no slander going on here. if its in print, its libel. while alot of you are doing your homework, you need to finish it. i digress... and freedom of speech... is a joke. you have freedom of speech only as long as it doesn't infringe upon anyone else's rights.if you don't believe that, read the constitution and bill of rights and then look at the news for the last 20 or 30 yeasrs. but again, i digress.. as for ms. hinson's children, you are in my prayers. hold your heads up, i kind of know how you feel. different situation, but still, i can sympathise with you. hold your heads up. you did nothing wrong.

As a former LC student "Miss" Tracy was my high school Chemistry teacher. I know that people will say whatever it is that they want to say, but there is only one person that can judge us and that is the Lord Jesus christ. I may not agree what has gone on but all I can do is pray for the family. Yes we all have freedom of speech but before you cast judgement on anyone else you need to look at your own life and make it straight before you start working on someone elses life. We all need to be praying and asking God to look after this family. They need him now more then ever to get though this bad situation. I just want to pray for all of those people that have dragged "Miss" Tracey's children's names into this you should be ashamed. The whole family is nothing more then victims thoughout this whole situation.

Also, it doesn't not matter where you live because it is happening everwhere (including Dyersburg and Dyer Count). It happens everywhere it just so happened that someone got caught this time.

We all need to look at our own lives before we go casting stones at someone else.

what is up with all the "spice girl" comments? what does that mean? who are you talking about? another teacher?

-- Posted by justme30 on Sun, May 11, 2008, at 9:34 PM

I have held back blogging on this issue for a few days due to the anger and frustration I feel after reading others comments. I get that Mrs. Hinson was a good teacher, cheer and dance team sponsor, and all around favorite among students and coworkers alike. That is why this has left many shocked and in disbelief. The fact is that Mrs. Hinson has led a double life. A life that SHE chose to live knowing full well the consequences of her actions if she was to ever get caught. And she did. SHE GOT CAUGHT! Do I feel sorry for her? No. I do, however, feel sorry for her family who are the ones who are truly paying for her actions.

I also know the victim and his mother. Some are blaming them for this incident coming to light. What? Should they have said nothing? Act like nothing happened so that everyone can keep up the "appearance" that everything is fine? Whatever you think of the boy or his mother the fact is that she loves her child just as any other parent loves theirs. And whatever the reason for how this incident came to be known, it needed too! People need to strip their personal feelings away and look at the facts for what they are: teacher/student relationships are against the law. He is a minor. The law was broke. Now it is up to the courts to do their job and make sure that the appropriate punishment is dispensed.

I for one feel so bad for her husband and children. If the proof is there then she should go to jail.Lake county don't feel bad I think every school hides something??????Mr.Slick went to Black Oak School to and he had made his braggs that he slept with a teacher there to and his mother knew all about it and done nothing about it "Go Figure" I just hope justice is served and these other Teachers have to face justice to.Just remember there are children involved so please pray for them.......

-- Posted by momof5 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 12:41 AM

From what I have been able to piece together it sounds has through we have this one sleeping with that one regardless of age down in Lake Co. Besides the fact that it is illegal to involve minors in the sexual escapades that go on down there, but when do we call the health department in to start testing for an outbreak of STD's?

-- Posted by SoDyersburg on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 6:47 AM

I agree with that!

I really think a lot of the blame for the boy should fall back on his mother where was she when he needed her?

Why would any decent mother allow her child to get in these condition now if he was alreay grown that would be one thing....

I think no matter how you look at it the teacher is to blame she should have been more careful not to look at him like he was a man no matter how grown he looks to her and yes she may be one of the greatest teachers there is and everone makes mistakes but has she learned from this and will it ever happen again?

The only people who have been really hurt by this is her children she should have thought about them and not her self.

I know every shool in this area should be investigated she is not his only teacher and I hope all the other names come out and justice is servered.........

There is bound to be so much more to this story than we know now. The reason the authorities are having to creep so slowly on this is because the 17 year old had a lot to gain here. He used this information as a bargaining chip to attempt to get back into school after being expelled for drug use. This does not make him look very good and it seriously impairs his credibility. If the authorities are aware that he has stated that he was involved in a relationship with a teacher at Black Oak, then again this damages his credibility. Ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? I understand there were supposedly a great number of text messages discovered. What is the breakdown on how many were sent from each phone? In some schools it may be odd that a student would have a teacher's cell number, but not in Lake County. It is a much more relaxed educational environment. This is especially true because this teacher had two children in the school. Suppose he picks up one of their phones and searches for their "Mom" entry- he has access to all Tracy's information. Also suppose for a moment that I pick up your phone when you aren't watching. I send a text message, but then delete the message from the sent folder. The other person will receive the message like it was from you and you have no idea it was sent. I fully understand that Tracy could have done what she's been accused of because she's human, but I also see other possibilities here because I'm not one to just take another person's word for something.

-- Posted by LC_graduate on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 8:51 AM

Oh I really wish you people would hush up on here. The boy's mother is not on trial, so leave here alone. Whats funny here is that everyone is taking up for Mrs Tracy because these alligations that have been in circulation for years, are what? RUMORS!!!! In that case, I might add, what do you hear about the boys mother?? RUMORS!!! None of us should be on here casting judgement - but if you dont even know these people or have any insight to the truth, you should keep you mouth shut.

And to PIkA--------> The boys biological father is known, just because all of Lake County doesn't know or know this person, doesn't mean family doesn't know the truth. Some people aren't out there advertising their personal lives since birth. And for you to even touch on the subject of abortion - you yourself has no ethics or morals!

And to others who don't know whats going on -----keep your foot out of your mouth ---wait til the trial is over and then state your opinion. I love how in every post made, the boys girlfriend's age keeps jumping up another year! How pathetic some people are...

-- Posted by mommie2b on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 9:01 AM

PEOPLE YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT! THE STUDENT NEVRR COMFORTH WITH EVIDENCE!!! WAT EVIDENCE HE COME FORTH WITH WAS TRYIN TO FIGHT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF! HE WASNT GOING TO LET THEM HAVE HIS PHONE UNTIL THEY GOT A SEARCH WARRANT AND HE DIDNT HAVE A CHIOCE ANDF THEN HE EMBARASSED ALL OF THEM AND SIT IN THERE FOR 2 AND A HALF HOURS AND DIDNT SAY SPEAK A WORD! I KNOW WHAT WENT ON!

-- Posted by LCRESIDENT on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 9:24 AM

PEOPLE, PLEASE!

Let us get something straight here. The "boy" no matter his age, no matter how mature he looks, no matter how many older women he has slept with, had a relationship with, etc. His actions ARE NOT MATURE!!! This is a boy. Of course, he is going to jump at the opportunity to sleep with his teacher and with older women! He may act older than what he is, but he is still an immature boy! A mature man will take responsibility for his own actions and someone who is mature is wise enough not to do drugs. This young boy clearly STILL NEEDS ADULT SUPERVISION AND GUIDENCE. Does he have a job? Does he pay his own bills? Does he help his girlfriend with bills? Can he buy alcohol, legally? NO! These adult women will soon come to the realization that this young man still has a lot of growing up to do.

The Fact is, Mrs. Hinson was suppose to give him the supervision and guidance HE NEEDED.. NOT THE SUPERVISION AND GUIDANCE THAT HE WANTED! For that, she is wrong.

What I have been informed of is she will never teach again (that is a plus) and she is only getting charged with delinquency of a minor (not much jail time, if any, at all). Mrs. Hinson has been doing this for years, although everyone knew about it… the fact remains there was no proof. No matter what anyone has said on here, you cannot prove something is going on without proof… HOWEVER, you know as well as I that things go on even if there is no proof. After all, what teenage boy is going to give up a teacher who is having sex with him? It is finally in the open, there is proof, everybody's accusations are conformed.

I am sorry for the student and teachers families who have to go through this. May God bless them with the strength and comfort they need from the actions thrown upon them by their families.

-- Posted by PoliticallyInterested on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 10:14 AM

oh, this just keeps getting better and better...YES, LCRESIDENT, he DID come forth with proof. Over 4500 text messages and explicit photos worth of proof! as for the sheriff's department...they did not even know about the investigation until 30 minutes before Mrs. Hinson was brought in for questioning. The only reason the "victim" was brought in to the sheriff's office was to give a formal statement in the matter.

and in response to PiKA..your comments about the boy not knowing who his biolgical father is a total lie..you should seriously know YOUR facts before making such foolish statements. Oh, and the part about his mother "should have considered the morning after pill" upon his conception speaks volumes as to your true character. It is surprising that supposedly intelligent people can make such asinine statements. People, know your FACTS before you start passing judgement on others and ripping people apart. You are not only hurting them but their families also.

-- Posted by chriscarrington77 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 10:35 AM

LCRESIDENT, i am in total agreement with you..People do make mistakes but some tend to forget that, don't they? They are quick to point out other peoples mistakes and pass judgement on them but when it comes to cleaning out their own closet..they slam the door shut fast!!

-- Posted by chriscarrington77 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 10:55 AM

It is amazing to me then, that he has a full time job, still/was enrolled in High School, having a sexual relationship with his girlfriend and other adult woman, helping with his soon to be stepdaughter, having a life that involved drugs and helping you when you needed him. Hummm, busy little boy and only 17 1/2.

In addition, using drugs to escape what people say about your parents is just a cop out. It is an excuse. People do drugs because they want to, I am sure they do not intend to get addicted, but they do it because they choose to.

So if I may use my previous statement again: This young boy clearly STILL NEEDS ADULT SUPERVISION AND GUIDENCE.

-- Posted by PoliticallyInterested on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 10:59 AM

To my previous statement, I did not mean to imply he was addicted to drugs! I simply meant to use that term to imply people do make mistakes and they can get addicted to their mistakes. They clearly know the consequences to drug use.

-- Posted by PoliticallyInterested on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 11:03 AM

HE DOES HAVE A FULL TIME JOB BECAUSE NO HE IS NOT ENROLLED IN SCHOOL!! HE HAS BEEN GONE SINCE THE FIRST OF APRIL! and before that he had a part time job making enough to take care of his buisness!

-- Posted by LCRESIDENT on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 11:07 AM

I agree that if Tracy is guilty of ANY inappropriate behavior with a student, she should be punished. I do, however, find it very interesting that none of this was "leaked" before the student was kicked out of school for drugs. I firmly believe it was a malicious ploy by the student and his mother to stir up trouble or in the mother's screwed up mind, a way to get him back into school. Had he never been kicked out of school, this would never have been "leaked". Don't misunderstand - THE ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP WAS WRONG and I think that Tracy should be punished but find the timing of all this coming out very suspicious.

Before anyone says anything. I do have children of my own. I did graduate from LCHS and knew Tracy in school and I have known the "mother" my entire life and the student his entire life.

The only persons that I have any sympathy for in this entire thing are Tracy's children, especially her daughter. This is her time to shine and now that is all being overshadowed by the latest LCHS scandal.

the victim will be able to do online work to earn his "credits" for graduation and he will be able to come back to school in April after his expulsion for a calender year has expired. If he keeps his "credits" up he will be able to graduate next year. I, too, am close with the "victim's" family and have known what is going on for quite some time now. i have even been present on one occassion a few weeks ago when his mother was contacted by the school board requesting "proof" so that an investigation could take place. yes, the timing is coincidental, but sometimes things happen like that. I can't help but get the feeling from reading some of these posts that some people feel because of who the victim is that these allegations should not have been made. It's as if people are mad that he came forward. Would it have made it easier to accept if it had been a different student making these claims? Or if it had been a different teacher? Listen up, people, NO ONE is perfect. Not the victim. Not the teacher. Nor YOU and I.

I just came in on the conversation and I have many dealings in LC. I know both people very well and the student is basically a grown man, but the law is the law. He is a 17 yr. old student and she is a suppose to be a role model and molder of young minds. There is not a male student in that school that wouldn't put himself in the same situation. That's what 17 yr. old kids do. For everyone outside looking in, this is a horrible thing.

For most LC resident it is just as horrible, but not a surprise. This has been going on since the mid 90's right after she was hired. Rumors are abundant in a small town so nothing has been done because of lack of evidence. It would go on for many more if this 17 YR. OLD GROWN MAN hadn't gotten in trouble at school and told off to stay out of trouble just like a kid is excpected to do. The only one's who suffer in this case are the family of the accused and the decent LC teachers and residents who will the butt of every joke until the next hot story surfaces.

Sorry, forgot to proof read my last post. So here it is again:

I just came in on the conversation and I have many dealings in LC. I know both people very well and the student is basically a grown man, but the law is the law. He is a 17 yr. old student and she is a suppose to be a role model and molder of young minds. There is not a male student in that school that wouldn't put himself in the same situation. That is what 17 yr. old kids do. For everyone outside looking in, this is a horrible thing.

For most LC resident it is just as horrible, but not a surprise. This has been going on since the mid 90's right after she was hired. Rumors are abundant in a small town so nothing has been done because of lack of evidence. It would have gone on for many more if the 17 YR. OLD GROWN MAN had not gotten in trouble at school and told off to stay out of trouble, just as a kid is expected to do. The only one who suffers in this case is the family of the accused, the decent LC teachers, and residents that will be the butt of every joke. That is until the next hot story surfaces.

ok. where to begin... aiding and abetting, i can see that, maybe, but that implies that there were folks helping to arrange these meetings. if that is the case then somebody definitely needs to be charged. sounds like there may be a conspiracy to commit these crimes going on, between the teacher, victim, and other students who have knowledge of the actions, perpetrator(s), and victim. regardless of how willing the "victim" may be, a crime has been committed. the way it was commented about "someone run their mouth" about seeing them coming out of a closet, sounds like there may be need to interview the whole school, students and all.

now, as for the boys mother and other women. yes, the other women can be investigated persuant to an active investigation. sometimes doing that can lead to new cases and new charges on other perpetrators. if there is evidence that a crime has been comitted then the officer(s) handling the case would not be doing the job they swore to do if they just let the evidence go. real life is not what you see on the shield, csi, gunsmoke, or whatever "cop show" you may watch. if officers couldn't do that then they wouldn't be allowed to question people.

and yes, the mother should be charged in the matter for facilition of what ever charges are handed down. She was aware of what the boy was doing and condoned him being involved with a 25 year old woman. thaaaaatsss a crrrriiiime! it was/is the job of the parent to stop these actions from taking place.

and lastly, why wasn't the rest of the stuff at the schools handled like this? the porn watching teacher, who is still there. the aid who got fired for stealing money. the last teacher who was escorted off the property for sexual misconduct of some type. what happened to all of those investigations? handled in house? or covered up to try and keep the image of lake county schools from falling any farther down the tubes. i graduated from lake county, and i'm proud to say that. but the school system is a joke. there are several good teachers and

i feel bad for them, but the fact of the matter is, they need to re-evaluate their priorities. if they are just wanting to "make bad choices," repeatedly, then they need to find another job. if they enjoy the power trip they get from scaring students (walking around with paddle in hand) and trying to punk them out and bully them around (trying to give detention for tying their shoes. yes, it happened to me), or "being god" in their classroom and discussing their sex life with the students, they need another job. Lake County Schools, you need to re-evaluate the whole situation. jump back and regroup! weed out the problems! expose the cover ups!!! and now...

i digress...

-- Posted by recalcitrant on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 2:06 PM

If mommie2be thought that i was blaming it on the student, then she reallly misunderstood what i meant in my comment. He knew that he was doin wrong but doesn't truely understand the consequences. The 17 yr. old man comments were to the lcresident that said he was mature enough to be considered a man. Regardless of size or attitude, a kid is a kid. I have two sons and would not at all give either of them atta boys! I would want her to get everything she deserves! But just like uwish said, she will not get even a fraction of what she should. Not trying to be sexist, but if it was a male teacher, everyone would want him hanging by his privates on the court house lawn. Maybe, if investigated enough, all the parties guilty will get what they deserve. There are more guilty besides Ms. Hinson and if she was getting the sentence that she deserved then maybe she would tell off just lk the boy did and LC could shut all of this down at once. Regardless what some people think, not all of LC is alike. Most people around here are decent. (UWISH!)

I was a student at LCHS in the early to mid 90's and I can assure you these things were not going on then. Yes, there were rumors about her and a certain AG teacher, but I was close enough to Tracy to know they were only rumors. You don't have to believe that if you choose not to. Personally, I'll be glad to see all of this go away. She'll get whatever the court sees fit. The boy will likely continue to be an expelled high school student on drugs with no future.

This discussion has obviously been taken over by a lot of high school children who love drama. This isn't myspace people. It is a newspaper and they are looking for intelligent conversation not children screaming at one another in capital letters.

-- Posted by LC_graduate on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 3:19 PM

AfatherofaLCteen - I apologize. I did misunderstand your comment. I totally agree! If this was a male teacher and female student, they would be ready to lynch the pervert in front the whole county!

Again, I apologize!

How come no one is talking about the teacher in Dyersburg that resigned because she got caught text msging a guy in her class..or the same school..whatever. How come no one is bringing that up?

-- Posted by justme30 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 5:39 PM

What's to bring up? Yes, it was inappropriate that the Dyersburg teacher was texting a student, but she wasn't having sexual relations. A big difference.

-- Posted by southerntowngal on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 5:44 PM

I was just wondering with all the talk of a sexual relationship, why is the charge contributing?

-- Posted by MomofThree on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 6:06 PM

I know some married men are getting very nervous. Getting very interesting. Is it true that the other teacher was fired. Is she in jail or is she out like the other rapist? Tracy come clean with you precious family and not hurt the innocent children of the married men you did. Shame on you. Glad you never taught my girls because they don't need sex education. Now you know why dyer Co would not hire you. Bet you wished they did so you would of not got caught. We see age and color don't matter to you. Atleast your not perjudice, are you.

-- Posted by trojan2 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 8:33 PM

MomofThree:

I think, not sure though, it is contributing because of the inappropriate text messages. They may have contained sexual images/material.

-- Posted by AfatherofLCteen on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 9:29 PM

So again, how come no one is talking about the woman from Dyersburg? Someone said it was just text msgs, well, still...was it because she quit and this woman was arrested in school? I'm just seriously confused as to why the Dyersburg teacher isn't getting brought up. I don't know any of the people involved, but I was just wondering...

-- Posted by justme30 on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 9:40 PM

LC_Graduate, this statement is towards you. I am also a former graduate of Lake County from the mid 90's and I can assure you that you cannot assure anyone that you know for a fact she has not been involved with previous students. You just chose not to believe it.

I agree 100% with AfatherofLCteen. One thing though, I think the hot topic is about to get a little hotter and it will be the topic of your little town alot longer than you think.

Dear you knowimright, I loved the blogs that you posted links to. They are great!

COME ON PEOPLE , UNDER 18 IS UNDER 18 NO MATTER HOW U SEE HIM. ITS THE TEACHERS FAULT. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

-- Posted by allie on Mon, May 12, 2008, at 11:58 PM

It does not matter how many woman this young man was sleeping with or how old they are. It does not matter what type of person his mother is. It does not matter if he pursued her. It does not matter that she is a good teacher and involved in the community. What does matter is that she betrayed the trust placed in her by the school system, parents and children. She holds 100% of the responsibility. As the adult and authority figure in this situation she should have never let this situation take place. As a parent, I am disgusted that my tax dollars were paying her salary to prey on any teenage boy, regardless of his character. Now thanks to her, he will have to live with the shame of this situation.

-- Posted by LCneedstocleanhouse on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 12:27 AM

I think the fact that santa claus and the easter bunny only doing things for kids should be looked into. They are way too old to be messing with kids, handing them candy and trying to pursuade the little ones with presents. Hmmm.. Someone should look hard at these two.

-- Posted by taylormade on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 8:42 AM

LCneedstocleanhouse-

THANK YOU....finally someone else who gets it. People need to take their personal feelings for these two individuals out of it and look at the facts as they are.

1. Teacher/Student relationships are

inappropriate.

2. She crossed the line.

3. She broke the law.

4. She now has to face the

consequences.

lcgraduate24- I never said I never heard it. I said I was close enough to Tracy to know it wasn't true at that time.

Politicallyinterested- For the record, I am no longer in that little town. I left for college and never went back. As for things getting more interesting, that's what I hear. This "man boy" didn't honestly think he could throw Tracy under a bus and his girlfriend not go too. I realize other teachers are possibly involved as well but I personally find it hysterical that he started this as vengence on Tracy and his girlfriend is going to end up in jail too. Statuatory rape is statuatory rape is statuatory rape.

-- Posted by LC_graduate on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 11:41 AM

The wait until Wed. may be more than most in L.C. can handle, like waiting with the calm before the storm ? as the hours pass teachers keep dropping like flies/the ones who have said there is way more to behold, KNOW what is ahead depending on what she stands and speaks ! so will it be (guilty) or (not) ??? and (if) this whole towns secrets are let out of the bag will it ever be the same? these (secrets) have gone on for years for some and months for others. if this all does go down the way they fear it will , it will be interesting to even keep up (LETS JUST SAY THIS TEACHER is on the tip top of this towns very large volcano)...until WEDNESDAY !

-- Posted by lcnotebook on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 2:28 PM

I think the system should leave Tracy alone. They never done anything to a man that raped my 14 yr.old daughter and he was 27 yrs. old. It's been 3 yrs. and nuthin has been done. So that should say something about the court system in LC and the good ole justice system Dyersburg's no better.

-- Posted by lcmom53 on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 3:10 PM

To politicallyinterested, I 100% agree!

I feel for lcmom53, but to want to let every other sick predator in this area get off because one did is CRAZY! I have never been through anything at all like that, but someone getting off without trouble wouldn't make me want every other sick perv. to get off too.

Everyone is biased to their own children, but to feel that it happened to mine so it should happen to yours is selfish and almost criminal in itself!!

That is flat out sick and should really be thought about by the one thinking that!!

-- Posted by AfatherofLCteen on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 3:56 PM

The nation is watching you Lake County! Now is your chance to show everyone watching that you can take care of people like the accused. Mr. Hassel it is time for you to clean house before you are accused of knowing about this manner and not responding appropriately.

-- Posted by SILENTMAJORITY on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 5:09 PM

What else is going on at LC, hear a teacher resigned today for admitting he had an affair with Tracy Hinson

-- Posted by baby boomer on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 5:32 PM

what the place needs is an enema. if the teachers have to be arrested, so be it. if they want to quit, so be it. they just need to go. they need to find some teachers who want to TEACH and EDUCATE instead of doing WHO and WHAT they want to do. they need to replace everyone, however remotely involved, from the top down. superintendant to janitor.

but, for now, i digress....

-- Posted by recalcitrant on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 6:14 PM

I would just like to know which Lake County teacher resigned today? Does anyone know any details? If so, please post a comment. Thanks!

-- Posted by concernedreader on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 9:21 PM

Who is this Mr. Pillow that resigned today? Anyone know?

-- Posted by youknowimright on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 9:44 PM

The assistant principal....

-- Posted by Here'sMy2cents on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 9:51 PM

Thanks for your responses. I'm sure he resigned before his name got brought up in court. That was smart!

-- Posted by concernedreader on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 10:04 PM

You have ur right to feel the way you want to about my comment. I did try to do everything possible to seek help on bringing that man to justice. It's sad for a judge to let a criminal like the man that done that to my daughter when served with a 2nd bench warrant to sign a paper stating he would show up in court instead of being locked up in jail. He made a fool out of the judge. He never showed up. He should had been locked up like Tracy when the crime was reported. I guess he wasn't cause he wasn't from here. I want all of you to know on here my mind is just fine. I do not uphold what she done. Wait until you have it happen to ur child and no one will help you.

did anyone go to school board meeting tonite?

-- Posted by tngranny on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 10:24 PM

They got a late start because the teacher dinner was tonight. Board members are still not home. I am praying for Mr. P's wife, she is a great teacher and has done a lot at the school.

-- Posted by outofLC on Tue, May 13, 2008, at 11:18 PM

lcgraduate24- Not going to have a peeing contest with you on who knew Tracy better or was closer to her. I know my relationship with her then and now and I don't feel compelled to prove myself to you. Again, I simply stated that I heard the rumors at that time but to this day feel confident she wasn't involved with those things at that time. It would take quite a bit to convince me otherwise.

All of this serves as such a great reminder of why I'm glad to no longer have any connection to Lake County.

-- Posted by LC_graduate on Wed, May 14, 2008, at 12:03 AM

This is not the first time this has happened in Lake County. James Welles was arrested in 1982 and to my knowledge didn't serve any time. He was in trouble 2 more times and is finally in prison in TX. Perhaps if LC police had done something then, he would not have been caught with child porn again. Also, 2 coaches were caught and spent some time in county jail in the 80's. They stopped teaching and went back home to their families. Mr. Hassell isn't quite so innocent either. There are rumors about his social activities also. It isn't a Lake County problem, it is a problem in society. It is happening all over the county. People need to have boundries. Whether the text messages were of a sexual nature or not...it is still inappropriate.

Nancy Grace people!!!! (404) 827 2600

-- Posted by scottfree? on Wed, May 14, 2008, at 4:40 PM

again i say:

Attorney General

Robert E. Cooper, Jr.

(615)741-3491

this is the phone number for the State of Tennessee's Attorney General. Maybe HE needs to hear about this. Maybe HE needs to start an investigation of his own. Maybe HE could get something done. i also have contacted Nancy Grace. I was contacting her show throughout this whole thing. and i just gave up when the DA dismissed the case. Maybe General Cooper can launch an investigation and get this all straightened out.

The best thing to do is turn this over to the Lord. Pray for everyone involved and let it alone

-- Posted by lc98 on Mon, May 19, 2008, at 11:11 PM

See, told you people nothing would be done to her. Same judge and DA.

-- Posted by lcmom53 on Tue, May 20, 2008, at 8:17 AM

lcmom53: The judge in the case had no choice when the DA announced they wanted to dismiss the charges.

I will say that I thought this judge was going to be different but after reading his rulings, he has turned out to be just like all the ones before him and that is very disappointing.

LC has always been about who you are and who you know....some things will never change.
