Darnell Madison, 19, Ripley, was lodged in the Dyer County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and evading arrest.

An arraignment had not been scheduled as of posting, but Newbern Police investigator Greg Barr said the hearing is expected later this week.

Barr and investigator Rocky Foster extradited Madison from Decatur, Ill. on Wednesday, where he had been apprehended on May 13 while sleeping.

Madison was transported from Newbern to the jail at about 5 p.m.

Barr said Madison "confessed to doing what he says he did" regarding the fatal shooting of Tamara Brown, 20, 401 N. Grayson St. and wounding of Donald Lee Wilkes, 42, 215 Jones St. at about 9 p.m. Feb. 28.

Madison is charged with the shooting, along with Colton Dequan Whitelow of Halls, 18; and Davonta Duffie of Halls, 15.
